Show By Telegraph. I". P. rt. R. Gossip. Chicago, Sept. 30. The Ecenim Post to day, says : There has been considerable talk in railroad circles and the presence of so many important railroad functionaries in town just now renders the circles quito extensive in their circumference about a change in the executive admiuistration of the L nion Pacifij R. K. ; consisting, in the first place, in the substitution of E. B. Phillips, or some other first class eastern executive, for Col. Ilaiu-nvind, Ilaiu-nvind, as superintendent of the road. The cause which the gossips have assigned as-signed tor this action was not, as any one acquainted with the history of the road under Col. Hammond's management manage-ment must know, any infidelity or incompetency in-competency on the part of that official. It was all said to be on account of the lo cal quarrel between Omaha and Council Bluffs, and the interests which the various directors are supposed to have in the rival towns, both of which are still quarrelling for the terminus. Col. Ha nmond has administered the affairs of the railroad ou the principle that Omaha was the settled terminus of the road, and therefore the Council Bluffs' party, having gained the ascendency. as-cendency. Col. Hammon 1 must be : ousted and another placed in his stead. It was even hinted that Webster Snyder Sny-der was to be recalled to the management, manage-ment, which he vacated so suddenly a year and a half act. Among the directors instrumental in securing the alleged change, the principal were Hon. Hiram Price and Gen. G. M. Dodge. For all this there may or may not be some respectable foundation. There is at least this, that Col. Hammond Ham-mond has sent in his r sicnation, which has not however been accepted a3 yet. The cause of this action is pronounced by good authority to be the extreme laboriousness of Col. liantnnnd s oflice, at which he las. labored with immense xeal and constant application, neither of which will he consent to abate so long as he holds the responsibility of the oflicc. Ail parties seem to admit the success of ins superintendence, since nobody at the out-?t believed that the Union Pacific railroad could be made a pnv-iag pnv-iag road as soon as he made it. It -eems to be the opinion among rail road me a that the resignation will son be accepted. What is beyond is yet contingent upon the action of the extern ext-ern directors. |
