At that time business generally was so dull that the enterprise was deemed by many who wished it success a somewhat some-what fool hardy one. But its publish ers, believing there was room for it and h future of prosperity before it, entered en-tered upon the undertaking with coufi donee in the result, and that confidence has been proven well-fouuded. We have no de-ire to speak of the popularity popu-larity which the paper has won; thai is with the public who pay for it and read it. But it may not be out ol place to say that its success has ex ceeded the most sanguine expectation of its publishers and warmest patrons. In tendering our acknowledgement; for the patronage received, we can as-pure as-pure the public that the course of th'' Herald is clearly defined. It will be independent, and outspoken in the cause of right. It will continue to labor la-bor for the best interests of the Territory Terri-tory regardless of detraction. Its platform plat-form is "Equal rights for all, regardless of creed, color or opinion;" its motto ''Do what is right, let the consequence follow;'' its object the furtherance ol everything that will increase the permanent per-manent prosperity of the Territory, and the dissemination of the latest and must reliable news that can be obtained from all parts of the world.
