Show SHOOTISG SCRAPE AT VIRGINIA. About noon yesterday a little neighborly neigh-borly quarrel oocurred between two men residing in the lower suburb of Virginia, not far north of the CJould & Cuny lower tunnel, in which one of them, Gates, was shot through the fleshy part of his thigh by John Johnson. John-son. Both are devout brethren of the Meihodist Church at Virginia, but the green-eyed monster, jealousy, has for a time past suggested to Johnson's mind that Gates, who is a single man, was on too good terms with his (Johnson's) (John-son's) wife( so he thought best to disregard dis-regard ihe scriptural injunction of ' vengeance is mine, saith the Lord," and go after Gales himself. He saw him go into the house of neighbor Crow, next door, and seizing his big nary-sized Colt's revolver, he directly went in also. ' Keckless of women, children or anybody else but Gates, he blazed away, the first shot smashing up things in a bedroom. The next shot plumped Gates through the thigh, cutting the main artery, so that he bled profusely, yet not inflicting what is thought to be a very dangerous wound. Further shooting was prevented, pre-vented, and Johnson went to station-house station-house and surrendered to Chief Downey. Down-ey. He was subsequently released on bail. Johnson and Gates were both employed in the Gould & Curry mine, and being both good citizens and devout de-vout praying brothers in the same church, ' the affair is all the more lamentable, whether with or without real cause.
