Show "Jes' So." A telegram to the California Cal-ifornia papers, dated Ogden Junction, August 10th, 6 p.m. Tuesday evening even-ing says : Dr. Newmau's closing sermon on polygamy, po-lygamy, in the new Tabernacle, at Salt Lake City, on Sunday last, is said to have been a masterly effort, creating a profound sensation, and completely dissipating the sophistry of his opponent, oppo-nent, Oison Pratt. Another report, equally reliable, says Dr. Newman's closing sermon so powerfully pow-erfully affected the audience that "the feelings of the women found vent in sobs and tears, and those of the men in curses." Language is inadequate to properly designate the contemptible, unscrupulous, lying curs that could send as truth such atrocious and foun-dationless foun-dationless dispatches across the wires. The first we might pass as the Squeak of a partizan penny trumpet, and would admit that Dr. Newman's "closing sermon" did create a "sensation," members of his own faith and others, not Mormons, publicly denouncing him for his efforts to destroy all faith in Bible worthies and Bible teachings ; but the latter dispatch is such a vilely barefaced lie, that its sender should be kicked out of every society as a thing too low and contemptible to mingle with mankind. |
