Show Be Merciful. It is to be hoped that his Honor, Judge Hawley, will feel mercifully towards those infatuated men who made the arrest of the two individuals, now lying in the city prison, charged with beiDg concerned in the last robbery on the Central Pacific Pa-cific railroad. We understand they did not have authority from his Honor to make the arrest, that they are neither nei-ther marshals nor deputy marshals, and, what is still werse, that they are Mormons ; and yet they had the audacity au-dacity to arrest these robbers ! We do not know what will be the full penalty pen-alty for the act, by Judge Hawley'e law ; but presume the penitentiary for an indefinite number of years awaits them for making the arrest. This thing is becoming seriously aggravated. First Judge Bigler and Sheriff Cazier, of Juab county, are responsible for having had locked up the men who robbed the southern stage ; and here comes Messrs. Kimball, Knowlton and Judd, who actually have gone and arrested ar-rested two of the C. P. robbers ! Still, it is to be hoped Judge Hawley will exercise lenity towards them. Of coarse the arreest did not take place in his district, any more than the previous one, but that is a small affair. Judge Hawley is capable of expounding the law for several districts in fact, for any required number of districts ; and for that reason we bespeak his clemency. clem-ency. The gentlemen would doubtless have called upon the Judge personally to do it themselves, but they were in a hurry to leave in pursuit of the other robbers; rob-bers; and they requested us to exercise our influence with him in their behalf, for we have great influence with the Judge. He likes the Ukrai.ii, although al-though Iii -j modesty prevents him from publicly talking of all he has done for it. lie comforted, gentlemen; we will keep imploring Judge Hawley for yon, and have strong hopes of success. |
