Show MAILS. The attention of Col. Wiekizer, Special Mail Agent, is directed to the following comnjunica:iuD : Ophir City, Utah, Nov. 7, 1S7U. Editors Salt Lake Herald: We have some five hundred inhabitants in our thriving little city and vicinity, and our population is daily increasing. Some three months ago we petitioned for mail service from Stockton to this place (twelve miles), but as yet our Uuelo has not been kind enough to grant it. In behalf of the citizens of Ophir City and vicinity, I would respectfully re-spectfully ask the Special Mail Agent if our petition has been forwarded to the Post Office Department. If 60, what disposition has been made of it I Also, what steps are necessary to take to secure mail service for our city ? I would also call the attention of our Delegate, the Hon. W. II. Hooper, to this matter. By publishing the foregoing you will much oblige many citizens of OruiR. The necessity for increased mail facilities is becoming daily more apparent ap-parent in many parts of the Territory. The new towns springing up around demand Iraiucnt mail service; and older but rapidly growing settlements have an equaliy strong claim. Cache Valley should have a daily instead of its present semi-weekly one. Rich county should have at least a semi-weekly semi-weekly mail; and if the present contractor contract-or does not feel disposed to risk his precious pre-cious health by taking the mails over the enow in the mountains during winter, win-ter, thus leaving the settlements in that county without mails for probably a couple of months at a time, we have no doubt a man could be found there to do the work, or take the mails from Evanston, if the special mail agent could make the necessary arrangements. arrange-ments. The communication of our correspondent cor-respondent presents the case of Ophir city in a plain light, and we trust these mail matters will receive prompt attention. atten-tion. We are satisfied our Delegate, Hon. W. H. Hooper, will do everything every-thing in his power to have mail facilities facil-ities placed within the reach of all. |
