The withdrawal of Cattell. of New Jersey, from the canvas? for the Lmted States Senate gives rise to what appears a not unbounded rumor, that Secretary Robson will enter the field as a candidate for the Senate, backed not only by his personal friends but by the supporters of Catted. If successful he will retire from the cabinet, cab-inet, which will give the President another opportunity of granting the demands of the Pennsylvanians. It is understood that -Attorney-General Akerman wi 1 be a candidate for the Senate, in the Georgia legis ature. The vacant position in the cabinet, in casse Akerman is elected, wi l, it is stated on good authority, be tendered to Senator Wi.liams, of Oregon. Among other strange cabinet rumors in circulation is one that Beutwed will soon retire from the treasury department, depart-ment, and mat Delano wUl succeed him. General Schenck's nomination as minister to Englaad wdl not be sent to the Senate until after the holiday recess. |
