Show A fetupendous Scheme. For some weeks we have had in our possession information that negotiations negotia-tions were in secret and rapid progress, on the part of responsible men, meaning mean-ing what they said, looking to the immediate im-mediate construction of an entirely new grand Trunk Railway from New York city to connect with the Union Pacific Railroad at Council Bluffs, opposite Omaha. The parties inaugurating this project have ample capital, and represent repre-sent a new combination of railroad in terests, that has not hitherto had a hand in the competition from New York to the iVest. They have control of the franchises and charters of lines directly west from the metropolis through New l'ork and Pennsylvania to Akron, Ohio, and also have similar rights in Western Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. The only link needed to complete com-plete the enterprise is from Akron to Tiffin, Ohio, and some time since a proposition was made to the Akron Board of Trade, by Mr. James E. Abbott, Ab-bott, President of the Western Railway Construction Company, by which that gentlemen agreed toeuterinto $, 1,0UU,-000 1,0UU,-000 bonds for the completion, inside of two years, of a connecting link in a throu.h railway from New York to Council Bluffs, through Akron, providing provi-ding this section would turn over to that enterprise the $S00,000 stock nominally subscribed to the Baltimore and Ohio and Chicago extension. The Atromans could take no action, being pledged to the Baltimore and Ohio authorities, but decided to leave the matter au open one until such time as the route of the Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Western Railway was decided, when, if that is not secured to Akron, they will accept Mr. Abbot'6 proposition. proposi-tion. This is a straight away-route, leaving Chicago, Toledo and Cleveland to the one hand, and Pittsburgh on the other, as beneath it is no ice. It will be the shortest possible line from the commercial com-mercial metropolis of the nation to the Pacific, and will save at least two hundred hun-dred miles over any other line between New York and San Francisco, and thus will become not only the great central artery of this nation's traffic, but a hitthway of the world, a main channel of the gigantic trade between the nations na-tions of Asia and Europe.
