an effort for a long time past to secure control of the South Daisy ha I at last been successful and now holds an option at a goodly figure for a limited time The work of development develop-ment will be commenced in a day or twoColonel Colonel Heffron is a No 1 miner and has been unusually successful in the handling of ores by the cyanide process pro-cess at Bingham and elsewhere He has always been an ardent admirer of the west YJIP believing dema all the I I veins that have been developed in this i basin will also be found there and that I i the ore will be equally rich and easy r to reduce by the cyanide process I The South Daisy covers about 2000 feet on the apex of the vein and is owned by Messrs E A Benson H I E Carey A H Mayne C H Scheu J B Thompson and others Colonel i Jh I Heffron has also secured a bond on a fractional claim owned by the Snow h di ot I storm company which is i so located as to be more valuable to the South Daisy 1 than to the Snowstorm A drift is being driven In ore from the bottom of the Columbia shaft on Lion hill following a body of shipping ore which runs from 40 to 50 per cent lead SO ounces silver and 230 gold I The vein is from a foot and a half to two fet In width and is growing in I proportions as i is developed James Kelly of Ophir has taken a I contract to do 200 feet of tunneling In the Columbia In the drift from the I bottom of the Rosa shaft there Is said j to be an 18 inch streak of ore running 100 ounces of silver and about 5 in gold per ton I is supposed that In a few days the Chloride Point mill will be ready for its initial run a the poles are now on the ground for the electric light plant and nothing now remains to be I done but to place them in position and string the wires The framework of the Daisy mill Is now about completed The company com-pany Is making good progress and from appearances there will not be the usual delays that have generally occurred in this district in starting new reduction plants Sufficient money has been raised by the directors of the Annie mining company to complete the shaft to a depth of 500 feet and work will be resumed at once It is expected that the ore zone will be reached in that distance Present indications are that the rumored starting of the Ophir Hill mine and concentrator this spring was purely newspaper talk No steps have as yet been taken In that direction at any rate The county court has designated A H Mayne Frank Hall Superintendent Legg and E J Raddatz a delegates at large from this county to the mining congress which convens at Salt Lake next July The miners in the Hercules on Lion hill are working In a breast of high grade ore from which a shipment is soon to b made The Hercules promises prom-ises to be one of the big mines of the hill Superintendent Benner of the Geyser I Marion who recently took an examination examina-tion of the mine the other day and is more than ever pleased with his Investment In-vestment Small Lots of Cyanides The ease with which cyanide product can be stolen from the mills of this character all over this western country coun-try has had the effect of making ore and bullion buyers very wary when unknown un-known Individuals present themselves with small lots of cyanides which they wish to dispose of and the regular dealers have a long list of questions to put to the seller before his wares will be taken and even then they prefer that the product come through the regular I reg-ular channels It is but a month or so ago that a small lot of cyanides from the south was offered for sale In this city inquiry in-quiry revealing the fact that the came from De Lamar Nev and later it was found that the lot had ben stolen from the Apri Fool mill at that place although al-though it is not known a vet whether the real thief has been apprehended Another instance of the offering of a small lot of cyanides presented Itself yesterday when a stranger arrived at the office of the Consolidated Kansas City Refining Smelting company with two bundles purportedto contain about 50 pounds of this product This individual who gave his name as Frank Joseph Cordory with San Francisco Fran-cisco and Truckee as his places o residence and business wished to dispose dis-pose of the two lots of gold not for himself he stated but for the Union state Cyanide company operating on tailings on the Carson river near Empire Not having any acquaintances In the city and being averse to inquiries being be-ing made by telegraph a to his identity iden-tity responsibility and his ownership of the cyanides Major Jackson the resident resi-dent agent of the Consolidated Kansas City refused to buy the contents of Mr Cordroys two packages and this gentleman left the office with expressions expres-sions of regret at having given the major ma-jor any trouble in the mat rAt r-At the BullionBeck I John A KIrby the efficient superintendent superin-tendent of the BullionBeck who I BulonBeck was in from Eureka yesterday on business for the company states that the mine is holding its own in good shape and that the daily shipments will run about 75 tons of mineral which will carry values of 1 to 15 per cent lead and from 40 to 45 ounces In silver to the ton while from six to eight tons of ore are being taken daily from the 9qOfoot level to the south which will assay 10 per cent copper 40 ounces silver and from ton 55 to 56 in the yellow metal to the tonAt At the present time the main working work-ing shaft in the BullionBeck is down to the 1200foot level and it is being pushed down to the lumber for the building Is beginning to arrive Butte Intermountain General Manager Leslie of the Maud S mine has purchased a Beers ore crushing mill and will at once set it up on his property In the foothills about four miles southeast of the city The mill Is one which has been In use in German gulch and has a capacity of between be-tween 2 and z > tons per day Teamsters left Butte on Saturday to
