number of miners are in the city from various camps for the purpose pur-pose of spending the holidays with their families or friends Mercur orders for Chloride Point stock were filled in this city yesterday yester-day which speaks well for the standing stand-ing of this stock at home Superintendent Rone Wheeler of the South Swansea is in from Silver City to spend Christmas with relatives and friends Mr Wheeler states that the mine is in excellent condition and that it is holding its own with development in splendid shape Will Treweek who has had charge of the Alliance at Park City for some time is down to participate in holiday festivities with home folks Mr Tre I week states that mining matters at the Park are brightening up and that people there are feeling good over the outlook The payment of heavy dividends by mining companies during the month has given quite a stimulus to the mining min-ing industry throughout the state and people are beginning to realize more and more that the imperishable wealth of this country comes from the mines and especially those who have been the recipient of dividends during the month A carload of high grade carbonate ore from the Levant mine in Bingham above the Highland Boy mine was marketed in the city yesterday The Levant is being worked by Charlie Cowan Binghams assayer and his associates as-sociates I is still a prospect and this is the first regular carload consignment ever made from the property and the indications are that it will not be the I last either Democrat Baker City Ore The Democrat is in receipt of advices to the effect that on Monday last the tenstamp mill of the California lIning lIn-ing company of Cable Cove was started start-ed for a continuous run on good ore and it presages much prosperity for the mining industry in that section Mr W J Connors is the able manager 11 of the California and this property has for years been considered the mother lode at the head of Cable Cove I is extensively developed and years ago I many carlcads of ore were shipped by this mine to the smelter and very satisfactory sat-isfactory returns realized At a meeting of the directors of the Northern Light Company yesterday afternoon af-ternoon George AirSs waf appointed secretary and treasurer cf the company to fill the vacancies caused by the resignations res-ignations of L H Curtis and Dr E D Woodruff formes occupants of these two offices Mr Airis who has just returned from the Colorado school of mines is a capable and promising vounsr man He is a son of E H Airis one of the officers of the company as I well as of the Mercur and he stands well with business and commercial circles cir-cles in this city The annual meeting ces the company will be held in Feb ruary next Frank Knox of the National Bank of the Republic has just returned from a visit to Lion hill where he made an inspection of the Chloride Point and mill and he states that he was most favorably impressed with the property and furthermore that but few were aware of the magnitude and value of the ore bodies blocked out in the mine In fact he was surprised and as he made an examination for the benefit of eastern friends and clients a favorable favor-able report will doubtless be sent in During the past 30 days Mr Knox has purchased 2700 shares of Mercur stock for eastern people and he states that the mines of Mercur and Lion hill are receiving favdrahle attention at the hands of eastern capitalists at the present pres-ent time tme Ed LaFave is in from Manning where he has a contract for the doing of the annual assessment work on the Gipsy Queen group of claims owned by a Salt Lake company Mr LaFave states that the property is looking well with a fair amount of leaching gold in sight He also states that there is considerable activity in that locality at the present time and that Don Maguire Ma-guire of Ogden has let contracts for the assessment workon his properties there work is progressing on the Moonstone while the Gold King company com-pany is putting up a dwelling house with the intention of doing some extensive ex-tensive work on its group during the coming year Mr LaFave expecfs to leave in February for Alaska joining his father A LaFave at Juneau and together the two will so over into the Klondike country Will Orr the metallurgist and expert of the McArthurForrest Cyanide corn pany arrived in the Qity yesterday from Rochester Mon where he has been superintending the starting of anew a-new cyanide plant erected by J K Clark a brother of W A Clark the bonanza copper mine owner Mr Orr will spend the holidays in the city and his many friends here are pleased to see him Mr Orr was somewhat surprised sur-prised to hear of the vigorous bear attack tack that has been made on Northern Light stock of late but he attaches no I importance to the movement as he is atisiied as to the ultimate successful I outcome of the enterprise In fact Mr Orr has made several thorough and ex laustive examinations of the property and has made numerous tests on there the-re and he states that in the lower workings of the mine there are immense im-mense bodies of milling ore which not only carry heavier gold values than the mineral in the upper workings but that i also is a perfect leaching mineral from which a high recovery can be made by the use of the cyanide I process of reduction |
