Show I ARMY MfDCAlCORPS IN CUBA FINEST ORGANIZATION EVER PLACED I THE FIELD How the Sick and Wounded of the I Invading Forces Will Be Cared ForThe Hospitals New York May Assistant Surgeon Sur-geon General Greenleaf who will be in entire control of the medical corps and hospital and ambulance services to be established in Cuba has completed his comprehensive plans for rendering aid to the sick and wounded in the coming campaign and has closed his office here preparatory to starting for the front with General Miles says the Washington Washing-ton correspondent of the Tribune Colonel Col-onel Hoff will succeed Colonel Green leaf as assistant surgeon general although al-though later he may be in charge of the sanitary organization at Camp Sheridan opposite Washington Surgeon Sur-geon General Sternberg ha been untiring un-tiring in his efforts to provide Colonel Greenleaf with everything imaginable to constitute the finest medical consttute fnest organ ization which has ever been placed in the field by any nation This satnitary organization will be based on the strength of the fighting division the proportion of men in the hospital corps being about 3 per cent of the fighting force forceI will be divided into regimental detachments de-tachments ambulance companies field hospitals lines of communication to hospitals base hospitals hospital transports and railway trains and ralwa t1ins general gen-eral hospitals already established in the United States The last two will I be under the immediate direction of the surgeon general in Washington and the first will be in charge of Colonel Col-onel Greenleaf Men who are wounded in action will be cared for by those divisions di-visions in the order of their numbering the slightly wounded and the sick being be-ing discharged from the field hospitals if their injuries or j i iilnes are slight and they are capable of quickly returning to duty Those whose condition is more serious will he transported trans-ported carrjed through the lines of communication com-munication hospitals if rsecessary to the base hospitals and only the had cases who are unfitted for further active ser vice will be sent in the liosnital transports trans-ports and specially fitted railway trains to the general hospitals in the United States lnied About ISO medical officers and CO surgeons I sur-geons and o5m assistant surgeons ls accompany ac-company the arm the rate being one i medical officer to about 40 soldiers of thE line The medical corps will also Include I In-clude about ICO hospital stewards and act Ing stewards and about 1200 privates In I addition to tho usual equipment of I stretchers 150 ambulances of the most modern design will be used 10 of which are already with the troops and the remaining t re-maining fifty were ordered shinned from I Indiana to Tampa today Not more than onethird of the entire sanitary organizations organiza-tions will accompany the first force of regulars thatlands In Cuba tile remainder remaind-er following with the volunteers |
