Show W H DALE CUB Sousing Meeting Held at Its Hall Last Night There was a large attendance at the meeting of the W H Dale 16 to 1 Silver ver Marching club meeting last evening even-Ing which was held in the old Ger mania hal in the Galena block on East Second South The meeting was presided over by Captain Berry and the sneakers w re H S Laney George D Shell H D Folsom and others Mr Laney was the first one to address ad-dress the meeting and in the course of some very effective remarks alluded to the fact that if the nonpartisans were so anxious for reform it would be a good thing if Dooly and McCornick who are members of the committee would refund to the city that 1300 which they owe as sureties on the bond of the city treasurer That is the kind of reform the people are looking for not mere promises Mr Laney had his suspicions of a ticket nominated by men who had declined to refund money they owed the city and thought their faith was of the kind mentioned in the scriptures Faith without works George D Shell made an eloquent address ad-dress in favor of standing by the principle prin-ciple of silver The silver element united in this state last fall and carried car-ried it by an overwhelming vote This alarmed the goldlte element and an effort ef-fort is being made to break the mighty force here The nonpartisans are not so anxious to reform matters in this city as they would have us believe but are merely doing the bidding of the I American Bankers association with which nearly all the members of the committee are associated The Democratic I Demo-cratic party has shown itself to be the bimetallic party and it is the duty of all conditions being equal to support that ticket There is no difference In the tickets nominated so far as men go as to honesty but the speaker believed that with just as good men nominated the Democratic party was entitled to the support of all because of the stand on the question of Silver H D Folsom who is a candidate for the council in the Second precinct made a neat speech In which he declared de-clared that his idea of the nonpartisans nonpar-tisans was that the party was formed for the purpose of disrupting the Democratic Dem-ocratic party This was to be done by the election of a Republican city ticket I tick-et That would be the entering wedge The opposition knew there was a fight coming next fall and wanted to be prepared pre-pared to meet it I conditions continued con-tinued as they have in the past the Republicans Re-publicans could not make a showing at all hence this idea of a nonpartisan ticket The election of a Republican ticket or the election of the nonpartisan nonpar-tisan ticket here would have a bad effect on the cause in the east In this respec the local campaign was of national na-tional importance Mr Folsom declared he considered the money question o paramount importance im-portance and said had the conditions of the two parties in the recent campaign cam-paign been reversed he would have been a Republican He was for silver Coming down to the local issue Mr Folsom declared that while the affairs of the city were in a bad shape financially finan-cially he believed with a little of the same Democratic economy and policy admin which characterized the county istration something could be saved the taxpayers The tax levy is very heavy but it must be remembered that all are not city taxes and that the state and school taxes are the ones which add to the burden The expenses of the city should be reduced to a minimum and kept there because in the coming years the city will be called upon to lay aside a great deal from taxation to meet current cur-rent liabilities At the close of Mr Folsoms speech a number of the audience signed the roll and became members The next meeting will be held on Monday evening next when noted speakers will be present and musical attractions interest added to make the same of |
