Show COOK HEARD FROM left St Michaels For Bawson on September 18 A private letter was received in Ogden Og-den yesterday from Joe L Cook who I left here last summer for Klondike The letter bore date of Sept IS and was written at St Michaels Alaska However How-ever the postmark was Oct 4 probably prob-ably because it was not postmarked until the steamer brought it from the place where it was mailed The letter states We will leave here tonight at midnight mid-night for Dawson City We have had two snow storms here already and it is now quite cool Cook it will be remembered is with the Mayor Wood party which left Seattle Se-attle about Aug 1 in the Humboldt and Inch carried a small steamer in sections to be put together for transporting trans-porting the party up the Yukon A letter let-ter from Cook was published in The Herald about a month ago wherein he stated that the party expected to reach the Minook creek region before winter set in Later the dispatches announced that the party got off all right The present letter is specially interesting inter-esting to Cooks friends because a report re-port that he had been drowned in the Yukon about Sept 1 reached here and gained some credence because there was no way of disnroving it Cook promises an early letter to The Herald but says the news from that region has been pretty well covered by dispatches TXie reason of the party leaving St Hchaels at midnight was doubtless because that was the most favorable hour to start because the tide |
