Show ASSWL T8AN 1flAU lDrOR1 JAMES H WATTTg BEATEN BY A DEPUTY S RIFt Editor of the Paris Post Had Criti cised th Sheriffs Offlce Is Well X own I Utah r Special to The Kerald1 Paris Ida Aug 16This momimr a brutal and unwarranted attack was I made uoon the person of James H uoI I Wallis the editor of the Paris Post by Joseph A Neibaur deputy sheriff of I Bear Lake county who entered his of fee end clinched the editor and beat him most unmercifully The attack was the outgrowth of a vigorous arraignment ar-raignment in the Post of the manner in rigment I which the sheriffs office is being run Wallis has taken up a fight in the interests in-terests of the tax payers and his work has been generally commended The story of the attack shows i to have been deliberate and premeditated Wallis Wal-lis had been watched go to his office and he was followed first by Deputy Joel Rich who stood a safe distance from the office and then by Xeibaur who entered the building closed the door behind him and attacked Wallis without saying a word clinching his neck with his left arm and pulling him out cf his chair on to the floor where he was a helpless victim Deputy RIch heard the cries of Walls Wal-ls arid the blovs showered o him but made rQ attemptto stop the assault as-sault The examination is set for tomorrow but Neibaur is being retained in his position I po-sition and has spent ihe day summoning summon-ing jurors for the coming term of the district curt James H Wallis the victim of this assault Js well known throughout Utah He was at one time a resident of this ct and wasconnectedwith The Herald Her-ald Ho ha also engaged in newspaper news-paper work at Provo Nephi and Ogden |
