| Show PRESIDENT > MKTNLEY S f t COME Tomorrow the committee to invite President McKinley to attend the Pioneer Pio-neer Jubilee celebration will wait upon him and formally invite him 1vm the president accept the invitation and come To have the president honor the occasion with his presence would delight not only the people of this state I but of the entire intermountain region re-gion They would feel that the section of country in which they live was recognized rec-ognized as an integral and imaortant part of the Union President McKinley is not unacquainted with Utah having hav-ing been here when a member of congress con-gress So it cannot be said that he is unacquainted with the west But upon the occasion of his former visit the state had not emerged from the territorial terri-torial condition the old issues that had so long torn the people asunder were still alive Nov he would find a promising prom-ising territory become a great state a once divided people united and happy their aspirations common their ideal a great commonwealth where prosperity prosper-ity should reign and poverty be unknown un-known and where material advancement advance-ment should be surpassed by moral and intellectual achievements He would find not only in Utah but in each and every of the states of the intermountain intermoun-tain region a people who love the Union and know nothing but loyalty to the flag He would find that while they differed from their brethren of the east on many questions that still they do not differ from prejudice but from deep conviction The people of the west believe that the people of the east have a misconception of them and this is largely so but have not the people of the west misconceptions of the people of the cast as well Each section sees the mote in the eye of the I other but fails to detect the beam in its own The peqple of the west believe be-lieve that a visit to the Pioneer Jubilee and a somewhat extended tour of the west by President McKinley vould give him and those with him and through them the entire country a juster idea and a better appreciation of the west and its people their aims I and ambitions It would also have its beneficial influence upon the west and I its people It is sincerely to be hoped that President McKinley will come The members of the committee on Invitation invita-tion will have the best wishes of the people of the state for their success I |
