I RED HOT FEARFUL WEATHER I TH MISSOURI VALLEY I Horses Dying In the Streets at St Joseph Hot Wind Blowing and Corn Crop Damaged Omaha July 31At 2 oclock this afternoon the thermometer at the signal sig-nal office registered 100the highest temperature of the year At this hour Lincolns record was 104 The heat is accompanied by a wind blowing 11 miles an hour from the south with humidity of 23 degrees No prostrations prostra-tions have been reported St Joseph Mo July 31WIth the mercury registering 100 degrees IIn the shade and 120 in the sun the heat was almost unbearable today The air Is I very dry and crops need rain A number num-ber of persons were overcome by the i heat Charles Gales and Frank White I are in a critical condition Many horses died in the streets I Kansas City July 31The unusually hot weather continues At 2 oclocl I this i afternoon the government weather 1 In 1 t i uLn < u Lepflcu v U6 < VL ua and from 3 p m to nearly 5 p m 101 degrees or within two degrees of the hottest weather ever known here The humidity is low however and the atmosphere at-mosphere comparatively dry and as a consequence there have not been over a dozen prostrations and but one fatality fa-tality during the two days on which the thermometer has been above 100 Repdrts received here indicate that 100 degrees and over of heat was general gen-eral today and yesterday throughout Kansas and northwestern Missouri and that in many sections serious damage is being done to the corn crop From southern and western Kansas where hot winds are blowing and where ram has been needed for several days the reports are particularly gloomy several sev-eral counties reporting the crop practically prac-tically destroyed In other sections of the state north and east rain has fallen recently and i the outlook is more encouraging I
