Show I THE WORST EVER KNOWN Many Salt Lnkcrft Turned Back By the Flooila in Colorado I GRAND JUNCTION Sept 24The I recent floods on the Denver Rio Grande and Rio Grande Western railways ways are the worst ever known in the history of the state the worst that have ever occurred since the way was blazed through the Royal Gorge There are all the way from ten to twenty of them and they are scattered over a i distance of a couple of hundred miles Both roads between Sallda and this place are so badly washed out that passengers for Salt Lake and all points beyond were held at Salida since early morning only at the last to find at noon that the Western wa s badly crippled crip-pled as to preclude all hope of getting the cars through and as a consequence conse-quence the passengers were sent back to Denver and will be sent west over wH the Union Pacific Several well known Salt Lake who started fo points in Colorado were compelled to turn back and if they have urgent business in Colorado within with-in the next few days 1 have to select some other than the scenic rouJe At this hour j is impossible to say how I much damage is done or when the various va-rious roads affected will again be in good shape for travel but a big force of men has been employed and put 1 actively to work and it is well known that the Rio Grande men will not allow any vast amount of grass to grow under un-der the feet of the section and other men that they now have in their employ em-ploy E Route to Denver Speclql lo Thc Herald POCATELLO Idaho Sept 24 General Gen-eral Manager Dickinson of the Union I Pacific and party including Supsirfn lendent of Car Service B Buckingham Judges Kelly and Cornish Winslow S Pierce of New York general counsellor I fO the Union Pacific and General Superintendent Su-perintendent Bancroft passed through the city tonight en route t Denver New Mexican Railway MAPIMI Hex Sept 24 General Francisco Mar secretary of communications communi-cations of Mexico and a party of distinguished dis-tinguished government officials arrived here yesterday and in the afternoon conducted the ceremony of formally Inaugurating the Flahualilo railroad I which has been completed from Mata I moran to Flahualilo a distance of fifty miles This road will be operated by I C P Huntington a a part of the Mexican International system |
