Show IiIi7 GORMAN IS SANGUINE He lIne Xo Doubt Hut Bryan Will ll1rl1 y Bryan Voted For Weaver WASHINGTON Sept 24Senator Gorman was at Democratic headquarters headquar-ters this afternoon for two hours during dur-ing which time he vas closeted with Chairman Faulkner of the congressional congression-al committee who since the closing of the branch of the national headquarters head-quarters represents the national committee com-mittee also Senator Gorman had nothing to say about the general situation further than that he was confident of the election elec-tion of the nominee of the party with which he was identified Among other things however Mr Gorman and Chairman Faulkner discussed dis-cussed the various comments that have been made upon the vote of Mr Bryan at Lincoln Neb in 1892 for Mr Weaver Weav-er this discussion being precipitated by a dispatch from the Richmond patch to Senator Faulkner asking for the facts in the case After submitting the dispatch to Senator Sen-ator Gorman who In 1S92 was a atom bet of the campaign committee the following telegram was sent to the editor of the Dispatch by Chairman Faulkner I have submitted your telegram of I today requesting me to explain why I Mr Bryan voted for Weaver In 1S92 to Senator Gorman who was a member mem-ber of the Democratic campaign committee com-mittee in 1S92 He says that the national na-tional committee of which Mr Har rity was chairman determined to request re-quest all Democrats in Nebraska and the states west of there to unite with the Weaver people in carrying those states so as to prevent Harrison from receiving electoral votes in Nebraska I Idaho Montana Wyoming Oregon I Nevada and California and as a rule I the Democrats followed the request of i the national committee In addition i to this another Democratic paper In New York appealed for a special subscription sub-scription to carry out the plan of campaign cam-paign determined on by the Democratic Democrat-ic committee therefore we believe Mr Bryan or any other Democrat who dnino I rto voted in support of Weaver did soat the request of the national committee commit-tee |
