con-vention which met here today was good but one precinct Gooseberry not being represented Dr W H Schock was temporary chairman and J M Lauritzen temporary tempo-rary secretary All of the committees contained thirteen thir-teen members When appointed an adjournment was taken till 1 oclock The committee on credentials had reported re-ported when Henry McKinney moved to strike out the name of J S Weaver from the Salina delegation B S Kesler arose at this juncture and READ A RECOMMENDATION from the Salina delegates stating that P > Weaver had never been a Republican since he resided in Salina but recommended recom-mended that he be allowed to declare himself before the convention John Meteer was speaking i favor of Keslers recommendation when Weaver asked What does it take to constitute a Republican Republcn Vote the Republican ticket retorted retort-ed Meteer warmly How much of i asked Weaver From the neck down said Meteer Weaver said I never was a Republican Repub-lican and never will be if I have to vote all the ticket and I a a better Republican now than the man that made the motion I Mrs Weavers Republicanism was questioned but she declared herself and was allowed a seat to C Weaver W Collins now put the question i Are you not chairman of the Populists Popu-lists in this county I Weaver dodgea the question saying I he had been a member of the state committee but that they had no county organization I Have asked Collins you resigned aked Colns J H McCarty here obtained the floor and suggested that as Meteer suggested sug-gested voting the ticket FROM THE NECK DOWN he evidently did not intend to vote very much brains i Well said Otto Cuddeback of Salina Sa-lina I it comes to voting the head to be Republican I am not one The vote being called for fortyfour of the sixtyeight delegates voted to exclude Weaver The committee on permanent organization organi-zation and order of business reported Dr W H Schock of Burrville for permanent chairman and Miss Eva I Jensen of Elsmore permanent secretary secre-tary I The committee on platform and resolutions reso-lutions reported a platform endorsing j the present Republican administration of the state and county and especially I endorsing the work of James M Boil J tho in the legislature and readopting the platform of the last convention I Thomas Gledhill of Vermllllon throught the charge of the Democratic administrations spending 6000000000 was absurd but he was promptly shut I up Before the place of representative I was filled or delegates to the senatorial convention named the friends of James M Bolitho moved to instruct the delegates dele-gates to vote for him The motion tailed to carry but they decided to STAY WITH BOLITHO for the senatorship The seventeen delegates were then named The place of representative brought up the three names of W H Schock of Burrville J C Jensen of Elsinore and Simon Christensen of Richfield The fight was a hot one but on the third ballot after plenty of wire pull ing Christensen won For the commissioners com-missioners Hans Rasmussen of Red mond 11 A Abbott of Annabelle and Andrew Nilsson of Monroe were nom ihated S G Clark was + nominated for clerk by acclamation When the recorders place was to be filled J B Jennings asked to hear from the ladies of the convention Mrs Bolitho replied We asked for suffrage not for office and gave it as the will of the ladies that they asked no office J 1 Lauritzens nomination was about to be made by acclamation when J H McCarty objected to Richfield I I having everything and named Nephi Bates of Monroe for the place by a it tight vote the man from Richfield got SaUna wanted something and now tried for the assessorship but John Johnson of Elsinore got the plum For treasu Richfield had two nominees nom-inees but tans P Hansen won over H her Christensen Things were now getting warm John I W Coons for sheriff and J B Jennings for attorney were almost tfure of nomination nomi-nation both being from Richfield and there was but little hope of dislodging either ARE SARCASTIC Salina delegates were sarcastic The various outoftown delegations were I for anything to beat Richfield but all i in vain I Richfield wanted them both and it I got them i When the nomination for attorney i came J S Weaver was mentioned but it brought on ridicule When P D Schaeber of Salina was I mentioned for surveyor his supporters asked sarcastically if Richfield didnt want the place I was well that nominations nomi-nations were now finished or there would have been an open rupture John Meteer and J M Lauritzen were elected chairman and secretary of the county committee i Otto Cuddeback one of the leading Democrats of Salina offers to bet a I team buggy and harness that three Of the ticket will be defeated The women wo-men say Mrs Bolitho spokefor herself alone James M Bolitho when asked what he thought of the ticket admitted that it WAS GREATLY WEAKENED by the loss of SaUnas good will S G Clark was heard to say Hogs are all I right when kept in a pen but he thought Richfieids were loose The Democrats look with pity on their neighbors who lately fixed up a truce of peace but who now need another attend the state convention I con-vention at Provo and four to attend venton atend 1 the Fifth senatorial district convention I at Farmington The following folowing county ticket was nominated I The Democrats are reasonably confi dent of electing their ticket this fall because of the disaffection in the Republican Re-publican ranks j The social event of the week was the marriage of T R Welch one of Mor 1 i 1 gans prominent citizens to Mary Jane Toomer an estimable lady of Denmark I I fomer a mark Idaho A reception was given j I in their honor on Thursday evening at I I I which a large number of the relatives I and friends of the happy couple were present The brass band and glee club were also in attendance and rendered I beautiful and appropriate music I A benefit party for Thomas Palmer I who leaves shortly on a mission to the southern states was given in Simmons hall Wedensday evening The party was well attended and quite a large sum was realized for the beneficiary On Friday Colonel E W Tatlock presented pre-sented the public schools of Morgan city with a beautiful United States flag Appropriate and patriotic services were held at the stake house Colonel Tat lock made the presentation speech andRe and-Re J D Gillilan who accompanied him delivered an address on Patriotism Patriot-ism in the Public Schools A terrific wind storm swept over Morgan Friday the like
