| Show IN A BAD BOAT An American Who Han Been Twice Arrested BectaiLse of His Resiem hlance to a IVoteu Prisoner BERNE Sept 21An awkward mistake I mis-take on the part of the Swiss detectives has caused great annoyance to Mr George F Curtiss of Washington assistant as-sistant librarian of the American congress con-gress When Mr Curtiss arrived at Grindel Wald he was pounced upon by detectives who mistook him for a criminal from Montevideo for whom they were searching Mr Curtiss was locked up despite his energetic protests pro-tests but later the production of his passor and other documents convinced con-vinced the police that they had made an error He was therefore released and profuse apologies were made to him for the unfortunate mistake Mr Curtiss then proceeded to Geneva where the police made the same mistake mis-take as to his identity and he was again locked up I was impossible for him to convince the authorities of Geneva Ge-neva that he was not a criminal and finally he was compelled to telegraph to Hon John L Peak the American minister at Berne telling him of his predicament Mr Peak at once laid the matter before the government with the result that the release of Mr Cur tiss was immediately ordered |
