| Show INSIDE FACTS ATTEMPT TO HOLD U THE QUEEN AND CRESCENT Kentucky People Are Greatly Stirred Up Over the Event and n Great Deal of Interest i Manifested Therein Louisville Ky March 2SThe inside facts of the attempted holdup of the Queen Crescent No3 near Greenwood Green-wood yesterday morning are told in a special to the Evening Post as follows The plot to hold up the train had been hatching for weeks The road and express ex-press authorities managed to get a detective de-tective into the confidence of the rob bers who stayed with them until about unt 2 oclock The train was due at the rendezvous at 3 oclock The local de tective made an excuse to go to Greenwood Green-wood station a mile away and get the crowd something to eat When the train pulled Into Greenwood Detectives Detectves Griffin and Eddy were notified by Fraser ser the local detective that the detectve game was ready The engineer was to give a special signal or whistle if the train was halted by the bandits Promptly on the dot and spot a mile south of Greenwood injhe dark shadow of the tunnel cut he signal came from the engineer with a sharp crack of revolvers revolv-ers saluting to halt the train The wheels had not stopped ere Griffin Grin Eddy and Fraser sprang from the train Every one fairly in sight went down under the rapid fire of the de tectives The robbers were s dazed that their reply fire was wild and In a few minutes all was over The two men were Jerry Morrow and Frank Un derwood desperate characters living In the vicinity Tramp Martin the third man shot was not thought to have any connection with the affair The Burning Question Somerset Ky March 28As all the train robbers lived near Greenwood there Is much interest taken dn who is away from home At least three escaped and they are believed to be hiding at their homes John Under wood who was thought to be one of the bandits Is said to be wounded and if true he is the one who was shot while going up the bank The fact that Mose Morrow another son of Jesse did not come for the remains of his father and brother is held as proof that he was In the gang I Is generally gener-ally believed the officials know the names of those who escaped Sam Frazier who tipped off the raid was here today but disappeared He is in danger until the other robbers are captured I is said that his mother and the dead robber Jesse Morrow were brother and sister The man who signalled the train and climbed into the cab covering the engineer en-gineer remained on the engine after the other escaped He might have been killed or captured had the guards been aware of this fact He stole away in the dark The Jury impanelled by Coroner Patton viewed the remains yesterday I but no Inquest has been held and It may not be until next week I Is hoped that Martin the tramp who was so severely wounded will be I able to give them his statement He I very low |
