Show I DELEGATES TO THE < t CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION 1111 I i = THOMAS MALONEY I Thomas Maloney from the county of Weber at large west of the mountains I 0 moun-tains was born on a farm on Nola I Chucky iver near Warrensburgh Greene county East Tennessee De y > nber 6 1846 He worked on a farm and went to an old field school till he was 16 years of age when he ran off from home and joined the Eighth Regiment Tennessee Volunteer infantry in-fantry of the United States army His mother pursued him and returned him home before he was mustered into service but he ran off again the next morning and enlisted in the Eleventh Regiment Tennessee Volunteer cavalry and was mustered into the service of the United States He was chosen lerly at regimental headquarters in which capacity he served till the captu e of his regiment in Virginia in the latter i > urt 01 December JODJ Escaped capture by Longstieets army On exchange of prisoners he was again chosen orderly at regimental headquarters head-quarters till he voluntarily went to his company when he was elected corporal and then company flag bearer He served under General Ambrose Everett Burnside and subsequently sub-sequently under general William T Sherman Mustered out and honorably discharged on the 11th day of Septem 12K 1865 He then resumed his studies acf school Spent two sessions at Tusculum college Tennessee Took a course at the Biyant and Stratton Business college Louisville Ky Then entered Davidson college Mecklenburg county North Carolina where he graduated in all the departments i 1871 Upon returning home he began reading law Read law under Robert AC McKey Esq at Greeneville Tenn also under Judges Robert M Barton and Robert McFarland the latter one of the ablest lawyers that ever sat on the supreme bench of Tennessee W4cP jri 1 I T THOMAS 1ALOEY He then entered the law department of Cumberland university at Lebanon Tennessee where he graduated in June 1873 Opened a law office in Greeneville Tenn and began the practice prac-tice of law Practiced in all the courts of Tennessee built up a fine practice He subsequently became a member of the firm of Robinson Maloney The firm did a large and lucrative practice In connection with Hon Andrew Johnson John-son jr he edited the Greeneville In telligencer a staunch Democratic journal which largely contributed to the election of Hon William McFar land Democrat to the Congress of the United States over Hon R R Butler the Republican candidate This was in 1874 He subsequently became the private secretary of exPresident Andrew Johnson and took am active part in securing the election of the expresident to the United States Senate Sen-ate He continued thp private secretary secre-tary of the expresident till the time of his death on the 31st day of July 1S75 In 1S81 he removed to northwest north-west Texas where he practiced law till 1885 when owing to ill health he removed re-moved to Bait Lake city and opened a law office In April 1887 he moved to Ogden where he still resides and is a I member of the law firm of Maloney Perkins Since he came to the territory terri-tory he has been actively engaged in th practice of law and the firm has been successful in our supreme court In a great many cases At the solicitation solici-tation of many members of the Utah baivhe became an applicant for associ n t justice of the supreme court of tjfHi and had the support of almost all the members of the Ogden and Salt Lake bars Justice King however received re-ceived the appointment He bas no regrets whatever over his defeat and prefers to be a member of the constitutional consti-tutional convention He is a Democrat Demo-crat of the old school of Jefferson Madison and Jackson I J J WILLIAMS Of West Jordan Salt Lake county was born on the ISth day of May 1829 in the parish of St Glulves Cornwall England was married on the 16th day of July 1853at Falmouth Cornwall England to Johannah Tripp came to Utah in 1S68 has lived at West Jor J J WILLIAMS dan ever since and has been fairly successful in business He has held no public office until the present time was elected Justice of the peace fort for-t West Jordan precinct on Nevember I8D4 and at the same time delegate I to the constitutional convention |
