Show Militia Day at Spanish Fork As the 10 oclock train steamed Into Spanish Fork yesterday morning Troop B First cavalry National Guard Utah was drawn u in line to receive Governor West and staff The train also brought detachments from company com-pany A B and D Infantry and other Salt Lake cavalry and artillery of ficers To the inspiring strains of thn Lake Shore band the parade wended its way to the Boyack house where the governor and staff were installed Colonel Tatlock inspected the troop at 2 p m and his smiles and pleasant looks showed that he was well pleased At 3 oclock Companys M and J entered en-tered the town with a salute of three volleys and after an interview with the dinner tables all the companies formed on the target range and practice prac-tice began Considering the short amount of practice the boys did well and the governor and staff were more than pleased with the score Five men were selected from each company and B company of Salt Lake came first to shoot The score stood as follows B company Salt Lake 64 JI company Provo 57 A company Salt Lake 45 D company Salt Lake 46 T company Provo 52 Troop B Spanish Fork 65 The parade was then formed and after the band came Companies A Band B-and D of Salt Lake Companies M and I Provo then Troop B cavalry passing pas-sing in review of the commamlerin chief and visiting officers Throngs of people crowded the streets and nothing but praise was bestowed on the Utah National Guard The parade disbanded and was followed by a short exhibition by Company A and Company M The ball at night was a great success suc-cess and was military in all respects The Nephi Quadrille band distinguished Itself and many words of praise were spoken of for their music Speeches were made T by Governor West Adju tantGeneral Cannon and others and at 3 a m came the medley of taps Never was there assembled a more sociable crowd of lovely ladles and gallant gal-lant officers and men Success to Troop B in all their future efforts |
