| Show SHORT OX MUSIC Result of the Republican Boycott of the KnysvIIle Band KAYSVILLE Oct Republican rallies as they are conducted in this neck of the woods are always interesting interest-ing affairs To a person endowed with a lively sense of appreciation for the ludicrous they are usually a source of much merriment The one Friday evening even-ing was particularly so The proceedings proceed-ings preliminary to the assembling of 1 the alidlence who were harangued by G S Holmes and C S Variaii were of a highly amusing character I was I the personnel and instrumentation of the band they had on the street and the fat failure of what may or may I not have been intended us a procession I that caused the fun The Republicans I cans with a characteristic display of parsimony have recently instituted a have rece ty insttu I boycott against our local brass band because that organization would not consent to play for them and lose 0 much more remunerative engagement on the evening of November 4 Hence it was that when hey found it necessary neces-sary to send out a bad to drum up a crowd Friday evening they were in a 1 dilemma After much skirmishing a I band was formed consisting of three flutes and two drums and they started start-ed bravely on their way down town followed as was the pied piper of fabled lore by a troop of children Three torches there were and only i three that cast a flickering light on i the scene There were not more than half line march a dozen adults in the lne i Ing and Republicans were saying yesterday yes-terday that it was not intended as a procession We accept the explana i tion tionThe The band returned > to the hall at S oclock and the speaking began Gus Holmes spoke first and was followed by Mr Varian who in turn was succeeded f suc-ceeded by J D Murphy of Ogden who is nominee for district judge Murphys visit here is a fortunate occurrence oc-currence for his opponent the Democratic I Demo-cratic nominee Hon H H Rolapp I The Impression Murphy made was anything i any-thing but good and some voters have since been making very odious comparisons com-parisons between him and Mr Rolapp I who is conceded to be a much better man for the position The truth is I Murphy is outclassed and his friends I in this locality are beginning to realize li I Mr Rolapp is well known here I Murphy is almost a stranger Mr Ro I lapp ha r record behind ihim of successful suc-cessful practice at the bar and of business I busi-ness Integrity I Mr Murphy has such a record no one seems to know of i I On the contrary he is said to be a I carpetbagger and nothing more holding hold-ing just enough personal property to pay taxes upon It is said in fact I that he could pack all his property in I a grip and walk out of the territory I or to be more explicit he could load I all in a small beat and sail up Salt I river which in all probability he will do after November 5 for Rolapp will I be1 elected Everybody concedes that a a fact |
