Show i Lecture on Vtv Iiliiston I The fourth of the series of Sunday I evening lectures was given by Rev C T Brown in the Congregational church last evening A number of beautiful selections were rendered > by a male quartette composed of Messrs Thomas FOrd Dustan and McCoy and patriotic pa-triotic selections were given on the I organ by Professor Radcliff Rev Brown announced that next I I I Sunday the Congregational church would meet in the theatre with the other churches to celebrate Y M C A day consequently there would be no lecture on that day but that the series would be resumed on the Sunday following I fol-lowing > when the subject would be John Hampton i The subject of the lecture last evening even-Ing was Washington ixs a commander com-mander and under that head Rev Brown traced the middle and later life of the father of his country and paid a high tribute to his great ability which guided by the Father of all bore such wonderful and lasting fruits for the benefit of posterity Conscience Con-science was a great factor In the character of Washington Let fas emulate the great love of country of our first president who loved the people peo-ple as much as they loved him Napoleon Na-poleon and Washington were contemporaries contem-poraries With the one might made right but with the other right made might Washington was the man who I stood in the breach in that great crisis when the soldiers were disheartened and everything looked dark for the great cause of the liberty of mankind And well for this country was It that he was the man to be the first presi such the confi dent for was supreme conf dence felt in him that the fe rot the i f people of a one man power was completely allayed v I |
