Show DODGING TKn POIXT As a dodger our morning contemporary contem-porary is in continual practice but does not achieve success The manner In which it tries to slip and slide from its position of assumed knowledge of the persons guilty of the alleged San pete election frauds is laughable or pitiable according to the mood of the beholder What the grand jury has done In reference to other matters Is not the Question Our neighbor talks all round the point but does not utter a word that touches it The Herald has found no fault with the prosecuting attorney or the grand jury The TrIbune Tri-bune has asserted that it knows who perpetrated the forgeries in the San pete returns We suggested that this knowledge ought to be given to the grand Jury That sets our neighbor wild and it Jumps around and dodges the question and throws mud We also suggested that Messrs herman her-man and Shelly and John M Zane who it is svid hajl the returns in their private possesion the latter one day the others two days between the time when the canvass was made when no forgeries were discovered and the itrrje when they were pointed out in court should also be cited before be-fore the grand Jury to tell what they know about the maier Tat ock too we urged ought to be a witness What is there wrong about that Why should the Tribune squirm overt over-t If it knows who did the dirty trfck it ought to tell it If it doesnt know anything about It but only bragged that it did we can understand why it Is in such a flurry and shows proofs of being in aix uncomfortable state of mind By the by our excited neighbor discreetly dis-creetly omits to say anything further about Its falsehoods of a few days ago that three Democrats were indicted In-dicted for the Ogden frauds But It adds another lie to Its black list by asserting that The Herald charged last week that tIle grand jury were doing nothing The Herald said nothing of the kind but merely Canted the Tribune to < tell the grand jury what it boasted bout a few weeks ago We didnt believe it then we havent a doubt about the matter now it was simply romancing to use the mildest term at command But all the same the Tribune people peo-ple ought to be summoned before the grand jury when the election sases receive V re-ceive that further consideration which the body just discharged officially announced an-nounced is yet to be had It Is evident evi-dent that the Information alleged to be in possession of the Tribune people has not been imparted as the grand jury reports that the testimony submitted was very meagre Positive knowledge know-ledge of the parties who committed the frauds could scarcely be mentioned as meagre It is evident that our neighbor was only bluffing and that now it is only dodging |
