Show MILITIA MATTERS IVilliniu Webb Elected Flrs Lieutenant Lieu-tenant of Company A Company A N G U the old Den halter rifles as the boys still love to call i did Itself proud last evening The occasion was the election of a first lieutenant tp fill the place of Lieutenant Thompson who was recently re-cently appointed adjutant of the First regiment As the second lieutenant was so to speak promoted to the first it became necessary to elect his successor suc-cessor And like everything the company com-pany does to finish it off dn style Adjutant Ad-jutant Thompson w elected an honorary hon-orary member 9h the company Companies A and D have rented the top floor of > thejB Y Trust company building on Commercial street for a drill hall and it was there that the election was held < Co1 Page Capt Hazlegrxwe of gompany M of Provo Capt Lund of company B and most of the other officers of the Salt Lake companies wer present a < 5 spectators The whole affair was carried off in such good order that the company can well congratulate itself upon its high ffegree ot military training and discipline St The conrpanjrvmet at 8 oclock and held their usual drill after which Capt Grow formed the mn in 0 square and after appointing three tellers tel-lers announced that nominations for flirst lieutenant were in order Arthur Hulse nominated Wm Webb the present i pres-ent second lieutenant which was seconded sec-onded by A W Griggs R G Pratt nominated Alfred Garrick seconded by Chase Smith Andrew Smith also I seconded the nomination of Wm Webb in a neat little speech The result of the first and only ballot bal-lot for this oIc waS Webb 41 Gar rich 8 Webb whs ths7 siiyJii declared elected I Herbert Husbands then nominated Andy Smith for siiDnl lieutenant Willard Parrin named A W GIggs as a candMi whih received several seconds Lieutenant Webb seconded the nomination of Andy Smith in a neat little speech The result of the vote was Smith 24 Griggs 26 Griggs was thereupon declared elected and the enthusiasm of the boys could be held in no longer and calls for the various favorites faories were in order Lieutenant Webb Lieutenant Griggs Captain Hazel grove of Provo at one time g member of the company and an old favorite Colonel Page Captain Grow and Adjutant Thompson made short addresses ad-dresses A W Griggs voicing the sentiment of the members nominated Adjutant Thompson an honorary member of the company which was carried by a unanimous vote and the boys went home feeling that the evening had been well i spent |
