discussed bills in committee and not until nearly midnight mid-night did thy cease from their labor Several biBs were passed many others rejected and a good stat mae upon the appropriation bill which will probably require several hours more work worTodav Today the senate will spend Sunday in dis business discusing its unfinished The senators do not consider this an infraction ofthe Sabbath for as Senator Sena-tor Smoot exnressed it i wont be Sunday Sun-day anyway this is still the ninth of March Immediately after the senate assembled assem-bled a communication was read from the governor stating that he had approved ap-proved senate joint resolution No9 providing for the payment to the Brigham Brig-ham Young Memorial association Qt funds from the semicentennial jubilee Senator Nebeker then had the bill making the abstracts ot abstract com pies receivable as evidence amended so that the abstracts of county ecord era should have the same privilge The amendments made by the house to senate bill No 65 which were unimportant unim-portant were concurred in Senate bill No 22 by Rideout creating creat-ing the office of district attorney was amended so that biennial reports snaI be made The bill was then passed House bill NO 18 was next taken up and passed after amending it so that hereafter in all counties the county recorder re-corder shall prepare assessors plats instead In-stead of the county surveyor House bill No 95 to fin the salaries of district judges in districts having a population of SOOOO or mere at 3GOO and in districts of less population at 3000 was called up next and defeated by the enacting clause being stricken out outHouse House bill No 160 providing that indictments in-dictments for larceny shall contain only one count was called up by Senator Sen-ator Evans and passed The commIttee 01 irrigation then reported re-ported recommending the passage of house bill No 19 crcating a reservoir fund Senator Evans moved that a committee of three be appointed to examine ex-amine aB house and senate bUs with a view to rejection and to recommend for passage only those that are absolutely abso-lutely neeessar President Nebeker on the floor of the senate suggested that it be named the committee on ex ecuton and Senator Evans accepted the amendment Senator Tanner in the chair apPointed Senator Evans Ride out and Kebeker as the committee THESE REJECTED The senate then sauntered for about an hour and ame back then to hear tie report of the exeuton committee which recommended that the following bills be rejected Senate bills Nos 69 90 10 42 85 79 21 26 67 25 52 82 91 72 81 i7 49 and hous bills Nets 42 11 128 120 165 101 161 79 12i 88 50 153 5 21 20 135 52 34 120 19 91 1 12 84 arid 102 and the report re-port was adopted Senator Evans then from 3500 to 3OOQ and he was allowed al-lowed an addItional 500 for assistance in his office The salary of the attorney generals stenographer was increased from 1800 to 2COO The appropriation for enforcing the fs and gme laws was mae 60Q instead In-stead of 400 and the deputy wardens naiary was increaso from 700 to 31400 The state engineers salary was increased in-creased frdm 1000 to 2000 but his allowance crCe lowance for contingent expenses was cut down from 2000 to S6O The supreme court was alowe 1012 that beIng the defdt in the contingent expenSe account for 1897 and 1898 The salary of the supreme court reporter re-porter was increased from 1200 to 1600 The sum allowed for the maintenance 01 the sate library and the purchase of books ittS cut down from 5000 to MOO The appropriation for the geneTal maintenance of the stale university was CUt down from 80000 to 60000 The fund for apparatus and books was increased in-creased from 10000 t 10800 TIle fund for the maintenance of the agricuIura college was increased from 22500 to 21009 and an additional 4GOO was allowed for the extra teach errs for the winter course The fund for buildings and repairs up to the close of the
