Show Death of J C Creighton The Taylorville Ills Journal of I Thursday contains the following Von cerning1 Hon J C Creighton who died I In this city on Jan 23 of consumption consump-tion I tonoseph Joseph C Creighton was born in Wayne county Ill Jan 13 1855 and made his home there until he was 2G years of age He fitted himself for his profession that of a lawyer by reading law with his brother Judge James A Creighton of Springfield He was admitted ad-mitted to the bar In 1881 and in July of that year came to this city and for a I few years practiced law In 1885 he began business as partner in the law firm of Ricks Creighton and continued I con-tinued until his removal to Utah for his health about three years ago During Dur-ing Mr Creightons residence in this city he was master In chancery for two terms city attorney for two terms and states attorney for two terms All of these offices he filled to his credit and the good of the community He was also chairman of the Democratic county central committee for a time In 1884 he wa married to Cordelia B Allen Besides Mrs Creighton several sev-eral brothers survive him Mr Creigh ton was well known In this city and vicinity and his friends who are many will be grieved to kRow that one so wl gieved know kind and so gifted Is no more The remains were taken to Wayne county and were Interred beside his mother I who died last year |
