Show I DOWN TH COLORADO I A Vernal Prospector Goes Through the Grand Canyon N Galloway of Vernal who has successfully suc-cessfully made the trip through the Grand canyon of the Colorado writes from Rioville Nev to his homefolks at Vernal a brief account of his experiences ex-periences while on the way which is published by the Express as follows I is with the greatest of pleasure that I write you a few lines once more and I am pleased to think I am alive yetThe trip through the Grand canyon has been a long and tiresome one and much farther through than we expected ex-pected We have traveled 400 miles of the roughest river I have ever seen Many times positive destruction seemed staring us in the very eyes Many boxed rapids are encounteredno chance to line our boats no chance to make a portage Many thnes the cliffs are too steep to climb to look at the rapids rap-ids and often scarcely landing room at the head of the rapids Three or four rapids have been run at a time in close succession to each other with great towering walls of granite cliffs starting from the very waters edge without a landing or a chance to choose a chute to run through But we are very successful We have survived sur-vived the entire trip without a very serious accident I have taken notes of our trip and the trip from Lees ferry down is detailed The upper part of the trip is written from memory a short sketch only is given I may send this to the Vernal Express for publication so you may all know what trials and dangers are attached to making a trip through the Grand canyon can-yon of the Colorado river Our trip from Lees ferry has been of no profit yet We are trying to dispose of our boats here at the mouth of the Virgin river and intend to come back to Lees ferrY through Dixie A well equipped for the winter and as soon as the snow goes it is expected that this oldtime producer will repeat Its history in the way of regular and heavy shipments of ore The plant put In by Mr Reiling is sometMns new and It is attracting D good deal of attention I Is to save the gold from the creek bottom and the success suc-cess so far met with has caused a number num-ber of other plants to be constructed on similar principles One of the plants that will be operated the coming season vll be in Alder gulch where a large amount of gravel bed will be worked over Another plant is now being put in at Shoshone Falls in Idaho and the operators are all confident of making a great deal of money L G Hardy the wellknown mining operator returned yesterday from Cassia county Ida where he made an inspection inspec-tion of the Jennie mine on Connor Creek In which John Beck is largely interested Mr Hardy states that a shipment of ore from the Jennie Is slated to arrive In this citr today and he also says that at the I mine Mr Beck is working a force of five men on a fine body of ore and an upraise up-raise on the ore is being made to the I lcfJ air i If the present consignment consign-ment proves a success It Is more than likely that others will soon follow and I tat the mine will be developed in a thorough manner Mr Hardy states that there are other properties on Connor Creel which show up in a most en couraring manner and he is of the opinion that in the spring there will be a great deal of activity there |
