Show REAL ESTATE MEN MEET FORM AN ASSOCIATION FOR THEIR MUTUAL BENEFIT Will Advocate Certain Legislation E B Wicks Elected President W G Tuttle Vice President adV ad-V H Brooks Secretary Real estate agents bf Salt Lake have resolved themselves as a collective body Into a association which ha for its purposes the advocacy of modification modifica-tion In certain portions of the state constitution and particularly respecting respect-ing the mortgage tax and the deficiency de-ficiency judgment clause of the statutes The first steps toward the organization organiza-tion of those interested in realty were taken yesterday afternoon in the office of F W Shaw I was determined that the title should be the Real Estate Agents association the plan however not involving any exchange idea as this is claimed to be furtherest from the intention of the membership An election was held at which E B Wicks was declared president W G Tuttle vicepresident and V H Brooks secretary secre-tary In other respects the affair was entirely informal being no more than sufficient to launch the crusade A subsequent meeting to perfect the plan of operation is scheduled for next Friday Fri-day afternoon at 430 oclock in the office of J H Watts All those interested inter-ested in realty have been invited to be present A subject for immediate attention will be needed changes in the mortgage tax which cannot be amended without vote by the people The association will agitate such a reform and the basis for their objection to that article of the constitution as i now exists Is that mortgaged property is not credited with the amount of the mortgage incase in-case of foreclosure The members of I the association want to have the tax done away with altogether as its provisions pro-visions fall most heavily upon the borrower bor-rower of money while the nonresident money lender escapes payment in cases of judgment The association believes be-lieves that Individuals or corporations foreign to the state who loan within its borders should be taxed and that those who borrow should not be expected ex-pected to bear the whole burden of taxation A majority of those at the meeting were heartily In favor of doing away with the deficiency judgment act They see nothing but Injustice in allowing money lenders to foreclose on mortgage mort-gage property or secure It at auction holding the same while its natural value accumulates to threefold the debt and at the same time hold a judg ment over the headof the man who has been deprived of i for the balance of the original debt These are salient points which the association will push to Its utmost influence The associa I ton has been organized in the interest of the people and not for capital but it does not anticipate that it will at i all antagonize the money power for the reason that the members of the new reform movement are in receipt of many urgent inquiries from the east class eagerly seeking investment of every cass |
