Show ROAD TO LOS ANGELES New York Bankers Want to Furnish Cash INDICATIONS ARE GOOD ST GEORGE PEOPLEWANT TR MAIN LI Bates For the Knights Templar Conclave Con-clave Advertised Union Pacific Meeting Will Be ReId I This CityRailway Notes and Personals sonals sons The press dispatches of yesterday contain the following announcement which has caused considerable interest in this city Los Angeles Sept 21A letter to a private individual in this city from New York conveys the intelligence that Kessler Co the New York banker who are attempting to secure the control con-trol of the water company plant here have also undertaken to finance the extension of the Salt Lake railroad from Milford to Los Angeles In an interview had in New York a representative repre-sentative of the firm confirmed the statement The local representative of the fr 11 Wolman declines to be interviewed but stated he had secured a great deal of informatIon regarding this section for his firm Those engaged in the work of buIlding I buIld-ing south from Milford to Statelne do not care to say anything concerning this road just at present but from inferences I in-ferences which have been given it is believed there is a basis for the story The firm of bankers mentioned has not been asked to do any financial work but have rather suggested they oould do something for the people on the Los Angeles end and perhaps this end Up to this time Mr cCune and his associates have not asked for any help in the matter of the obtaining of money Local capital is building this road and no eastern syndicate ha been asked to assist a pennys worth I In ccnnecton with the construction of a road to the coat the Washington f County News has the following article on the location of the route for the new I road I is generally believed that the proposed pro-posed railroad to Statelne will event ualy be pushed through to the coast I is also believed here that the promoters I promo-ters will make a big error in extending I the line from Statelne to fanvel or Barstow a the better route by far for I the main line would be via Cedar City and St George The main line should run from Sul lne phur Springs to Cedar City to St I George down the Rio Virgin and the Muddy The distance from Cedar City i to lanvel via this route is about 250 I miles Tile grade is better the rim of the basin via this route being about 250 I feet lower than the Clover Valley pas I There would be practically no climbing I climb-ing to do the grade is good all the way through I A marvelously rich section of coun I tv would be given an opportunity to develop and support a much larger p puladol than < it present by the advent ad-vent of the railroad The rich coal andiron i i and-iron deposits of Iron county would be I I tapped Rich copper and lead mines the Dixie group Grand Gulch Savanac I Copper Mountain the Mammoth group I and othersal within 20 miles of St I i George could be worked at a big profit I The manganese mines at Calvie on I the Colorado river would be worked I Immense supplies of fine sal rm Sal i I mountain on the Muddy would be I shipped The mines at Good Springs and other places would be reached by i the route the same as the other The sheep and cattle Industry would be i I benefited and greatly increased as the long desert drive to the railroad would I b2 obviated Cotton would be planted j much more extensively than at present and would be a rich and profitable crop Our Dixie country would have a large influx of people very winter to enjoy the beautiful mid winter and eventual become a big winter resort Added to all this St George and surrounding sur-rounding settlements including tho eon e-on the Muddy would export large sup I plies of early vegetable and fruits of I the very finest kinds earlier than the California fruits and vegetables and of superior quality and flavor Messrs A W fcCune David Eccles C W Nibley Richard Mackintosh Joseph Jo-seph F Smith R C Lund and T D I Dee are all Utah men Ve respectfully respect-fully cal their attention to these facts and ask their earnest consIderatIon of them We believe their frt desire is to serve Utah here is an opportunity to do so and we believe as we have before stated i can be done ith everthing to gain by the change of proposed route |
