convention Many members of his party who have not heretofore been in accord with the governor gov-ernor joined in the cheering when he appeared and made a characteristic speech of acceptance Dexter lI Ferry of Detroit chairman of the state central committee called the convention to order He urged perpetuation per-petuation by this convention of every Republican principle He said with such a platform and a ticket headed by our wlr governor with our own General Alger having a part under President McKinley in the national administration ad-mInistration the conditions are especially es-pecially favorable for Republican vIctOry vIc-tOry The chairman deplored criticism by Republican newspapers of the war department de-partment whiCh he asserted will be used by demagogues of the other side in the campaign Grant Fellows Of Hudson president of the stat league of Republican clubs was called to preside as temporary chairman He said The Republican part in 1896 declared that it
