Show TO Rt ECORP THf SUNSHINt HEW INSTRUSEENT RECEIVED BY THE WEATHER BUREAU Great Improvement Over the Old Device De-vice and Record Can Be Inspected at Any Time A new thermometric sunshine recorder record-er for recording the time when the sun shines and the intensity othe rays was received yesterday by the weather bureau I will take the place of the old photographic recorder The advantages of the new instrument over the old are many By the old instrument the record rec-ord could only be inspected once a month with the thermometric machine a record O the sunshine is made once a minute and can be inspected at anytime any-time I works on the principle of the thermometer There is a black bulb filled with mercury The sun in thin ing on the black surface heats the mercury mer-cury which rises to n point where two wires nearly meet The mercury forms a circuit between the wires and a record rec-ord Is made by electricity The old photographic machine will be Te kept up for a month and comparative readings from the instruments will be made A pamphlet by E B Garrictt entitled Notes On Frost has been issued by the United States department of agriculture agri-culture A bunch of 150 of them were sent to the weather bureau of this city These will be forwarded to Interested parties throughout the state and it is expected that they will be productive of much good to farmers generally The pamphlet outlines methods of combating combat-ing the evil effects of frost upon the crops |
