Show CALLED HONE Colonel John Ward NEW YORK Aug 10Colonel John Ward died suddenly yesterday morning morn-ing He had been suffering for sometime some-time from partial paralysis He was I born in 1838 and was graduated at Columbia college in the class of 1859 He took the degree of LLB two years later in the Columbia law school and was graduated from the university medical college in 1S64 Entering the union army he served as captain in the Twelfth regiment of New York He was made colonel of the regiment in 1867 and was breveted brigadiergeneral a few months ago retiring from active service fourteen years Colonel Ward was a bachelor and was never in business He was the author of Campaigns of the Twelfth and Overland Route to California Cali-fornia and Other Points He was one of the original members of the Mendelssohn Men-delssohn Glee club also one of the early members of the Union League club being its librarian for many years and a member of the old guard He was an ardent collector of coins and possessed a fine collection Colonel Ward was a brother of General Gen-eral William Greene Ward and Charles Henry Ward who survive him |
