Show IJLAND IN CANTON A Delegation of Democrats Call on I McKinley CANTON 0 Aug 10The PIUs I burg Bryan and Sewall reception committee I com-mittee bringing with them Hon Richard Rich-ard P Bland and wife arrived In Canton Can-ton this morning some time before the I hour scheduled for Bryans train to I arrive It was suggested that a call be I made on Major McKinley and the idea was readily taken up by the sixty I members of the committee Forming in line they marched from I the depot up to the majors North Market street residence I Major McKinley was of course very much surprised to find himself thus i greeted by a delegation of Democrats i but he hastened out on the veranda and extended to all a warm welcome I County Chairman Hawley of Allegheny Alle-gheny county introduced Morris Foster Fos-ter of the committee who made a I short speech He said I Major McKinley We believe that every candidate for the presidency Is I worthy of the highest respect regardless i regard-less of his politics The members of I the committee have therefore called to pay their respects to you as American I Amer-ican citizens I Major McKinley as he advanced to respond was greeted with a hearty round of cheers He said Mr Chairman and Gentlemen I am very glad to have this opportunity to greet you and I am very grateful for the generous words spoken by your chairman representing another political politi-cal organization We are all of us proud of our country and our countrys history and we should all be determined deter-mined to make this government In the future as in the past the best government I gov-ernment in the world Of you who disagree with me politically it Is very grateful to have assurance of your personal good will I thank you As the major concluded there was I another burst of applause and then I everybody shook hands with him Mr Bland and his wife after the committee had returned to the depot remained and spent an hour with Major Ma-jor and Mrs McKinley While the Bryan demonstration was in progress at the depot Major McKinley Mc-Kinley was busily engaged with his mail There were few callers today and l he was able to do considerable work on his letter of acceptance Sewall on HI Way BATH Me Aug 10When the Boston Bos-ton steamer Kennebec left the wharf here tonight Arthur Sewall was aboard He was on his way to Boston from which place he will go direct to I New York to receive the official notification noti-fication of his nomination as vicepres I ident by the Democrats Have you made any arrangements I as to what you and Mr Bryan will do after the notificationwhere you will then go he was asked No I must first consult Mr Bryan I believe it i is settled though that he will return with me to Maine |
