Show THE UTAU BAPTISTS The Figures Given by the Census Bulletin Are Inaccurate z Attention should be called to some inv in-v accuracies of the figures given in the census bulletin so far at least as they refer to the Baptists of Utah The bulletin I bulle-tin is based upon the returns of 1890since which time there has been a material i L growth of the organization in this territory 1 terri-tory both in wealth and the number of i i communicants w Btev Henry B Steelman pastor of the First Baptist church of this city last evening supplied a HEKATJD representative representa-tive with exact statistics concerning the Baptist organizations of this territory The total number of church edifices is seven instead of three and the number of communicants is 437 not including the Swedish Baptist church with a membership mem-bership of twenty and the colored Baptists Bap-tists with a membership of ten This makes tho total number 467 or 140 more than given by the bulletin The property owned by the Baptists of Utah is given by Rev Steelman as follows fol-lows First Baptist church 50000 East Side Baptist church 8000 Burlington Addition chapel 2500 I Two North Salt Lake lots 500 Ogden properly 20000 Provo property GOOO 11 Total S8TOJO The East Side church a handsome edifice edi-fice on Third South and Seventh East nnd Burlington Addition chapel have been erected since the ceusus of 1890 The First Baptist church of this city was organized just ten years ago but there had been an organization here some years prior to that which had lapsed The oldest organization of the territory is i that of Ogden which was organized in p 1881 |
