Show DANCERS AT SALTAIR The Exhibition Witnessed by a Great Crowd I The May Polo Ceremony Awakened Much Enthusiasm and all the Dances I Were Gracefully Performed I Professor Youngers exhibition proved a great drawing card for Saltair yesterday I yester-day The crowds commenced gathering early and before the hour advertised for j I I the exhibition the great pavilion was thronged with spectators The exhibition opened with a grand march by thirtythree couples and during dur-ing this preliminary it was observed that the participants had all mastered the difficult ficult art of walking well The majestic polonaise a stately dance which was finely executed by the young people Among those who participated were Misses Ella Ensign Grace Keeler May tie Lambert Ret Lyon Ale Stone Pearl Evans Matie Mack Lizzie HeronRy Heron-Ry Riggs Belle Barrett Minnie Jeremy Diana Lloyd Hattie Pollock Aggie Watson Wat-son Efe Beebe Irene Hall Tessie Bartlett Bart-lett Bee Wilkinson Clara Ferguson Mabel Campbell and Messrs Ed Hazel grove Rob Fisher Charles Hague Will McKellar Will Laley Thomas Sampson Bert Reading O J McGraw J R Grieve J Weiler A Barrell Orson Brooks Frank Luff Fred Coddington Scott Groo and John Whittemore The May Pole dance awakened much enthusiasm The winding of the pole is always a graceful performance and last evening this was prefaced by a march led by four friars in monks cowls and gowns the May queen and her maids of honor During the winding of the pole the queen sat upon her throne surrounded by her attendants The role of queen was well sustained by Miss Wilkinson The four friars Rob Fisher Ed Hazelgrove 0 K McGraw and Fred Coddington were properly monkish The leader of the march Thomas Sampson performed the difficult task in a creditable way Others who took part in the dance were Amy Walker Daisy Cunningham Maytie Lambert Matie Mack Ethel Powers George Beecher Will McKellar Charles Hague and Robert Fisher The Highland Fling was well executed by four little lassies in the Scotch costume Mabel Derrick Ella Thorn bnrg May Armstrong and Daisy Cunningham Cun-ningham The pastoral was a very pretty dance and pantomime given by Bee Wilkinson May tie Lambert and O K McGraw It was one of the most attractive features of the programme The single dances were all good They were the SkirL Dance by Ethel l Powers Sailors Hornpipe by Jennie Sands Scotch dance by Pearl Dunbar Fishers Hornpipe by Bee Wilkinson and the Tambourine Dance by Mattie Mack The performers of the tambourine and skirt dances received enthusiastic encores The performances of Miss Mack and Miss Wilkinson deserve special mention The first was grace personified in the tambourine dance Miss Wilkinson appeared ap-peared in four dances of widely different characters und was equally graceful as May queen and as fisher maiden The appreciation of the audience was shown by loud and frequent applause The programme was followed by a number of popular dances In which everybody joined The 1130 train carried the last pleasure seekers back to Zion all pronouncing this one of the top occasions of the season I |
