Show IOWA REPUBLICANS They Sleet in State Convention la Des Moines DES MOINES Aug 16The Republican state convention assembled this morning at 11 oclock After a temporary organization organi-zation had been effected the convention was addressed by Senator Harlan who regarded the present financial situation as favorable to the recovery of the control con-trol of the government by the Republicans Republi-cans The convention was largely attended at-tended and enthusiastic The contest has narrowed down to Jackson and Young for governor but unless either one receives nomination on the first ballots bal-lots it is likely to go to a third man General Drake being most frequently spoken of ExSenator Harlan Is also being be-ing mentioned for nomination The report of the committee on credentials creden-tials was adopted The committe on permanent per-manent organization reported for chairman chair-man J C Lawrence of Sioux City and for other officers the temporary officers made permanent Mr Lawrence was introduced in-troduced and amid much applause commenced com-menced the delivery of his address After considerable wrangling over business busi-ness and a long wait on the committee on resolutions I D Jackson of Des Moinea was nominated for governor The platform adopted after three hours debate declared that it was not the allegations alle-gations made by the Democratic party as to the McKinley law or reciprocity not that the claim of vaunted good remits of Democrat success hascome true but that the financial distress is a fulfillment of what Republican history warrants as to the known in capacitjf of the Democratic Demo-cratic party It declared that it was W prime im a |
