Show NORTHERN PACIFIC The Principal Reason Why a Receiver Was Asked For NEW YORK Aug 16Little news is r obtainable about the affairs of the Northern North-ern Pacific Railroad company At 11 oclock the lawyers for the receivers and tho company were in consultation at the offices of the latter The application for the appointment of receivers it is learned has been granted in St Paul Portland Helena Olympia Milwaukee and New York One authority said that while it was true that the falling off in the receipts of the road was indirectly the cause of the receivership yet the immediate cause was the drop of 5 per cent in the quoted urice of the companys consols and its inability to respond to a call for more margins on one of its loans which loanshwhioh was not due until September The failure fail-ure however to put up the required margin made the loan at once due and payable t There were two of these loans one owing ow-ing to Speycr Co which has been adjusted ad-justed the other which exceeded 2000 000 owing to Kuhn Loeb Co They called that loan before the appointment of receivers They could sell collateral held for the loan about 510000000 at par value but if they did it would cause a tremendous break in the price of them At the office of Kuhn Loeb Co it was said by a member of that firm that a 52000000 Northern Pacific loan which bad not neon included in the subscription had been arranged but he declined to give the reporter any particulars or state who held the collateral or whether they wot Id be put on the market I i Railway Note The Rio Grande Western brought up i about 250 persons from Utah county yesterday yes-terday the occasion being the excursion to faajtalr of the B Y Academy Summer school and joint teachers institute I Jack Reeves bought a ticket and went t to Saltair yesterday All is very quiet about the railway offices of-fices and every one is waiting with various va-rious degrees of patience and impatience for the result of the depression |
