Show FOR A GRAND JURY i Examination of Victims Commenced Com-menced YesteiMay QDiTgr A KUMBEll CAUGHT Civil Jury Coses Will lie Called uv 1mlzo Anderson this Mnrnlnji An Alleged Perjury Case The epening session of the April term of the Third district court was held yesterday morning with Judge Anderson on the bench Judge Zane being engaged in chan hers I Assistant United States Attorney Stephens Steph-ens announced that he was ready to proceed pro-ceed with the examination of grand jurors and the following gentlemen were called into the box Fred Rugg G Downey Henry Winchester William M C Giivray Hiram Johnson E P Ferry T J Almy I L B Rogers Charles Shields J C Lid dIe A Hanauer sr M H Walker and William Smith Mr Smith was excused because he was an officer of Summit county I Mr Downey asked to be excused because it would be necessary for him to go to I Idaho and look after his cattle It was t agreed however that Mr Downey should j be excused long enough to attend to this business and then resume his duty on the grand jury and ho was kept on the panel Mr Stephens examined the jurors and found that they all possessed the statutory qualifications and as the panel was not complete further examination was continued tinued until this morning The venire for the following additional jurors was drawn and made returnable this morning J A Groesbeck William Burke Thomas W Jennings Ole Jorgenson and W C Staines AX ALLEGED PERJURY CASE The case of Lee Ousley John Free and Alex Toponce charged with perjury was called up The indictment alleged that the offense was committed in June 188 when the defendants swore to a document in regard re-gard to a land entry before Register Wallace Wal-lace Messrs Stephens and Evans stated that a dispatch had been received from Mr Wallace at Seattle stating that his wife was ill and asking that the case bo continued I contin-ued The prosecution therefore asked permission per-mission to submit the case to the grand jury which was objected to on several grounds and the matter went over until this morning JOKY CASES CALLED THIS MORKINO Judge Anderson gave notice that civil jury cases would be called this morning and set for trial |
