| Show d The City Council The city council was called to order at the usual hour by Mayor Turner The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved The following petitions were presented and referred to the appropriate committees The journeymen plumbers of Ogden asked to have a plumbing inspector appointed ap-pointed and that a man suitable for the position I po-sition be named from the Ogden union J E Coolidge asked for the appointment of sewer inspector Hobson Wilkinson having completed the system asked the council to accept the city sewers E A McDaniel asked that something be done to have the city water mains extended from Washington avenue east on Thirty first street Frank Howe asked to be retained as city sewer inspector Several taxpayers asked the council not to force them to pay the special tax for the opening of Thirtieth street R Kohn asked that the council take E measures to compel the water company to construct mains on Twentyeighth street extending from Quincy to Jackson avenues ave-nues The Browning Grocery company asked to be permitted to erect hay scales on thu south side of Twentyseventh street between be-tween Washington and Adams avenues A petition signed by over thirty taxpayers taxpay-ers was presented asking that steps betaken be-taken to have the water mains extended north on Washington avenue as far as Phoenix mill gM L Tuttle offered to furnish rustic seats for the city parks at 8 per seat The Western Union Telegraph company asked tobe permitted to erect a lines of telegraph poles it > the center of Twenty fourth street from the union depot tracks to the present offlcn at 407 Tyentyfour street I R IQomist asked to be permitted to build a fruit stand on Hudson avenue east of U Kiesel Cos store I R O Wheeler Co asked for a special permit to erect a building for D H Peery on part of lot 2 block 31 George W W Verge asked in behalf of the Odd Fellows lodges for the use of the school room in the city hall for anniversary anniver-sary services of the order to bo held Sunday Sun-day afternoon April 26 The committee on licenses reported in favor of granting the petition of the city butchers asking for protocuon against peddlers ped-dlers Adopted The committee on claims reported in I favor of paying a long list of miscellaneous bills amounting to 1410 The telephono companys bill of 12 for a telephon at Marshal Metcalfs residence was disallowed disal-lowed together with a number of other bills upon which the committee reported adversely The bill of S75 for clerk hire for the city recorder for last month was ordered paid having been referred to the council by the committee on claims without recommendation recommenda-tion The committee on water supply recommended recom-mended that Mr Dey be put in charge of the Weber canal An electric light was ordered placed at the corner of Twentyfirst and Lincoln The use of Lester Park pavilion was granted the Ogden Typographical union 4 for a hall on the night of May 20 Upon the recommendation of the city engineer the street committee and the city attorney the se war system was approved and accepted from the contractors Messrs Hobson Wilkinson the contractors J agreeing to put the streets in certain places N in pood repair the sum of S OO to be held back on the months estimate to guarantee the performance of the work The health committee reported an ordinance ordi-nance requiring the attending physician physi-cian upon any case of contagious diseases to report the full particulars to the health commission Also making a nuisance the use of scavenger wagons during the day time and prescribing the way of removing re-moving offensive matter It was read twice and when put on passage defeated The ordinance was referred to the committee com-mittee on laws The matter of the fire escanes being put on the Grand opera was brought up by Engineer En-gineer Parmeler the escapes not being constructed according to law The matter was referred to tho committee on laws and the fire committee with the city attorney added The udgment in favor of Mary Kennedy against the city of Ogdon for injuries sus tained by reason of a defective sidewalk amounting to 5810 was ordered paid I The sower having been accepted the contractors con-tractors were allowed their proportion due on the sewer upon fiLIal estimate amounting amount-ing to 7o97 the balance of tho contract about 5000 is retained for six months for contingencies After a little more unimportant business the council adjourned until Monday eve at 730 |
