Show tN THE HOUSE ° The Proposed Code ot Rules Again Discussed Dis-cussed WASHINGTON Aug 3QThe 1 House today discussed the proposed code of I rules without sult The session was I i i J dull and uninteresting and but little attention at-tention was paid to the speakers Mr Wolcott asked unanimous consent to introduce a bill repealing the statutes authorizing the appointment of marshals and supervisors of election Mr Dingley objected Mr Breckinrldge of Kentucky from the Committee on Appropriations re gpitsd an urgent deficiency appropriation bill which appropriates 300000 and it passed Mr Powers asked consent for immediate imme-diate consideration of a resolution calling on the attorney general for Information as to whether any action will be taken incases in-cases now pending in which the Southern Pacific railroad begun action to dispossess settlers on public lands Mr Bynum objected Mr Hopkins Republican of Illinois advocated a rule which would prevent filibustering and Mr Kilgore Democrat of Texas criticised the rules of the Fifty first Congress and declared they were denounced de-nounced by the people Mr Qrosvenor Republican of Ohio defended the Reed rulings during the Fiftyfirst Congress The discussion was continued by Messrs Grosvenor Hoi man Dingley and Outhwaite The rules were then discussed by paragraphs An amendment was offered but defeated increasing in-creasing the membership of the committees commit-tees of ways and means and appropriations appropria-tions from seven to nineteen additional members to be appointed from territory west of the Missouri river at present un represented A motion was also presented pre-sented to increase the membership of the committee on rules from five to eleven Debate on this motion was cuts short by the adjournment of the House |
