Sscretary THE SUGAR FACTORY If This Seasons Output Will Double That of Last Tear The Utah Sugar company began the seasons operations yesterday morning Dy opening up the syrup vats which contain con-tain the syrup that was precipitated last year During the next twentyfive days the force at the factory will be engaged en-gaged in taking out the brown sugar that has been precipitated and converting it into granulated sugar after mixing it with fresh syrup The amount of sugar now precipitated in the vats says Mr Thomas K Cutler general manager of the factory will reach 309000 pounds In thirty days the crop of sugar beets will provably be ready to handle and the I factory will then begin work on them Thirty thousand tons of beets have already been contracted for at 3 per ton and it is expected that from them 4000000 pounds of granulated gran-ulated sugar will bo manufactured this season This run will be double that made last year and will probably make the institution profitable Mr Cutler has been entertaining Mr Henry T Oxnard president of the sugar companies operating the factories at Chino Cal and Norfolk and Grand Island Neb for the last few days Mr Oxnord has been looking over the beet crop of this year and has very warmly congratulated Mr Cutler upon the quality qual-ity of beets that are being raised He said that this is the best crop he has ever seen and of course implies that it is better than those found in the other beetgrowing states The crop is much better at this stage than it was last year and will probably show far better bet-ter results than any other beet that can be found The sugar company is t be commended for this result as it has spentfCQfOQO to bring it about having hav-ing established agencies in all towns in the best gown region and furnished seeds implements and information to the farmers The amount of work done can be shown no better than by saying that this same Mr Oxnard who now pronounces pro-nounces our beets to be the best thought two years ago that beets could never be raised successfully by irrigation as he knew the experiment had been tried in Spain and Italy and failure had been the result The perfection arrived at in the growth of irrigated beets in Utah makes one believe that the Utah people are the foremost irrigators in the world Yesterdays Clearings Yesterdays clearings were 99605 Misting Notes Silver 72tf
