Show IN THE HOUSE There Was a Questionable Quorum Only PresentA Brief Session WASHINGTON Aug 17The financial discussion in the House today was spiritless spirit-less and uninteresting and it is doubtful i a quorum could have been mustered on a roll call at any time today The proceedings pro-ceedings in the House will hardly resume animation before the beginning of next week The silver debate wasresumedand Mr Daniels Republican of New York spoke in favor of the repeal of the purchasing pur-chasing clause of the Sherman act Congress Con-gress he said should intervene to give some measure of relief to the people by changing the financial policy For the past fourteen years the accumulation of silver has been goingon Instead silver going into circulation it had gone into the treasury and there it remained as a useless article so far as currency was concerned con-cerned The people had become confident that the law of 1890 should be repealed Mr Cooper Democrat Florida said he would vote for the Wilson bill and against each and every one of the propositions propo-sitions presented by the silver men He argued that the Sherman law was the cause of the present depression Goldzier Democrat of Illinois spoke in favor of a repeal of the Sherman bill At the conclusion of Mr Goldziers remarks re-marks Mr Woodcock of Michigan announced an-nounced the death of his colleague J Logan Chipman and formal resolutions were agreed to The speaker appointed a committee to take action in the premises The House then as a tribute of respect to I the memory of the decsased adjourned |
