considering a report of the committee on school work regard to the purchase of books and supplies for the ensuing school year and to consider a report of the finance committee at which Messrs Nelson Alif Pendleton Young Beatie Reybould and Dooley were present pres-ent REPORT OF SCHOOL WORK COMMITTEE The following report of the committee on school work as to the books and supplies sup-plies was unanimously adopted Gentlemen Your committee on teachers and school work begs to submit the following report of school books required re-quired for the ensuing school year and recommend that authority following additional report of the committee on school work was adopted GENTLEMEN Your committee on teachers and school work begs to submit the following recommendations I First That the date of the next examination exami-nation of teachers be fixed to begin September tember 1 and that the superintendant of schools be authorized to insert in the daily papers proper notices of such examination ex-amination And we further recommend the election at this time ol two assistant examiners SecondWe recommend the authorizing authoriz-ing of the superintendant to have printed the requisite blanks for use on the opening open-ing of schools ThirdIn the matter of reopening the i Liberty Park school which was referred to your committee we nave to state tlia upon consideration of the case we do not advise the continuance of that school for the ensuing year Fourth We desire to call attention to the need of renting school buildings in the following locations 1st In the vicinity of Lincoln park 2nd In the vicinity of the school which last year was known as the South Lawn school 3rd In the vicinity of Second ward and Tenth South known as the Ontario school 4th The school building known as the Davis school 5th The school building known as the Cone school 6th The school building known as the Folsom school Fifth We wish to call attention to the need of the continuance of the rented rooms in the Tenth school and the Twentyfirst school the Seventeenth and the fleiss building I In relation to these school accommoda lions we recommend that authority be given the committee on sites and buildings build-ings to negotiate for the same Respectfully B G RAYBOULD WILLIAM NELSON W J BEATIE R W YOUNG Committee on Teachers and School Work EXAMINING COMMITTEE APPOINTED Miss Holton supervisor of the primary grades and Prof Malone principal of the high school were elected to serve with Superintendent Millspaugh as examiners exam-iners at the September examination FINANCIAL CONDITION gJThe finance committee reported that the available funds of the board are now reduced to about fSGCO which is the only revenue of the board until such time as the taxes shall be paid or the bonds sole that the committee has discussed the advisability ad-visability of issuing interest bearing warrants war-rants that the attorney the board has been consulted and has advised that it would not be lawful to make the warrant interest bearing yet after issue and pros entation for payment and ref sal to pay the warrants will as a matter of law bear 8 per cent from that time until calledin for redemption WILL PAY INTEREST It was on the unanimously adopted motion of Mr termined the board will pay interest on all warrants which being registered and presented to the treasurer and not paid for want of funds and that the interest shall bo at the rate of 8 per cent per annum from the date of registration until the treasurer nrer has funds in his hands with which to pay the same and gives public notice to that effect A CONTRACTORS PROPOSITION 0 On motion of Mr Raybould f40 was < I appropriated and ordered paid to Both well McConauehy assignees ofF M Wright contractor of the Washington school building upon tho approval of the voucher by the committees en sites and buildings and on finance and after the formal report of the acceptance of the milding by the former committee The proposition of fitting up two basement base-ment rooms of the Lowell building for school purposes was discussed but no definite determination w reached owing to havingin view the renting rooms in that vicinity at less cost lilr Bothwell addressed the board in behalf of the contractors of the Lowell building who now seek final payment but are hindered by the existence of a number of lens most of which tho contractors con-tractors declare t be invalid |
