Show IN MUSICAL CIRCLES The Tabernacle Choirs Trip to Chicago S Promises Well Messrs H G Whitney and Bishop Clawson returned yesterday morning from Chicago having been absent nearly two weeks They visited Kansas City Denver St Louis Chicago and Omaha in the interests oi the choir excursion and stated that although their trip was made in a rush they had a pleasant time and are conduced that the choir will be handsomely hand-somely greeted wherever they stop and that the trip will be a paying one inasmuch inas-much as all the managers made generous offers and were desirous of playing the choir on shares Tho gentlemen were surprined at the already al-ready widespread reputation the choir enjoys and owing to this fact their task was somewhat easier than i would otherwise other-wise have been and the mere statement that the Tabernacle choir was talking of coming and thatthe Salt Lakers had subscribed sub-scribed 15000 or 20000 to guarantee Its appearance at Chicago to compete for the prize paved the way to making exceptionally excep-tionally good terms in the cities visited With the exception of one or two small changes the gentlemen have succeeded iu arranging their dates to conform with the originally proposed itinerary the trip being extended to fourteen days instead in-stead of thirteen The plan as arranged so far is as follows fol-lows Leave Salt Lake Wednesday August Aug-ust 30th appear in the Broadway theatre or the Trinity M E Church of Denver the 31st September 1st at Kansas City Auditorium September 2d at St Louis in the Exposition building arriving in Chicago September 3d and remaining until the 9th upon which day in the Festival hail between the hour vf 12 and 2the celebration of Utahs day will beheld be-held and upon the same evening will be given a concert in Central Music hal The choir will in all probability remain in the Worlds fair city over Sunday returning re-turning to this city the 12th or 13th Mr Whitney says the competitors for the male chorus prize of 1000 are without with-out limit but for the grand prize only four competitionary choirs are entered two from Scranton Pa the Western Reserve of Cleveland 0 and our own choir choirhe The reports agree that these choral societies so-cieties are good singers being made up of the various church choirs in their vicinities The hal where the concert will take place is a beautiful one wi tke beautiul seating fully 7000 persons America and other selections will be sung by the united choirs at the close of the contest The prize money has been raised by subscription sub-scription among Chicagos wealthy Welshmen Each competitor however isTennircfl to nav an admission fee the r I entrance choir fee being 125 for each competing I |
