Show FOR BREACH OF PROMI E I I Sensational Suit Filed Against RepresentatIve Breckenridge I A DEMAND FOR 50000 I I The Plaintiff is Aaelaitle Pollard of Washington I Allegations Filed go at Great Length Into the Relations Which Existed Be tncen Them Sir Breckeuridco Not Disturbed by tho Suit WASHINGTON Aug 12In the supreme I court of the District of Columbia today suit was filed for 50000 for breach of I promise against Representative e William C Breckenridge of Kentucky by Adelaide Ade-laide 0 Pollard The plaintiff charges I that in April 1SS4 when she was 17 years old and a student at tho Wesleyan I Female seminary Cincinnati she was met by W C Breckenridge who made i I her acquaintance on a plea of knowing her family and that she was flattered by his attentions He got permission of I the president for her to dine with him and bv wiles and artifices and protestations of affection subsequently subse-quently took advantage of her youth and inexperience She avers that he got her completely under his control I The allegations filed go at great length into the relations which existed between plaintif and Breckenridge as she charges charg-es until recently The birth of two children who died and the premature birth of a third child are alleged as the result of this intimacy She further alleges that after the death of the children child-ren she came to Washington and that after the death of his wife she was again in a delicate situation and with protestations of love and affection he induced her to continue her relations and promised to I marry her as soon as it would be proper for him to do so From time to time she I alleges the date for the marriage was postponed until on the 18th day of July i she avers that Breckenridge wrongfully and injuriously married another injurously woman Plaintf was for some time an employee em-ployee of one of the departments here The announcement of her engagement to Breckenridge and the subsequent breaking break-ing off of the engagement and Brecken ridges marriage created a sensation in the capital I Colonel Breckenridge was absentall day in Philadelphia witnessing the launch of the cruiser Minneapolis On his return to the city this vening a friend informed him of the filing of the suit but i did not seem to worry him a bit After dinner din-ner a deputy marshal served papers on the colonel who showed the paper to his wife and neither appeared disturbed To an Associated Press representative Colonel Breckenridge said I have not had time to examine the papers in the case I can only say at this time before I have had a chance to know the extent of the allegations macip that I hope my friends will believe that these charges are the r sult of vindictiveness vexation and perhaps intention to blackmail black-mail and I ask that they suspend judgment judg-ment until a full hearing shall have shown all that is in them I do not care to say anything further until I have opportunity op-portunity to consult with attorneys and thoroughly examine the allegations l |
