Show TIlE POSTAL COMIS Official Assurance of Competition In Telegraph Service A hotel man in this city in a moment of exasperation over the telegraphic facilities facil-ities afforded the people of Salt Lake recently re-cently wrote a letter to Mr J H Hayes general western agent of tho Postal Telegraph Tele-graph company at Portland Being well acquainted with Mr Hayes he emptied every vial of wrath he had upon the heads of the Western Union people and cited to Mr Hayes reasons numerous and divers why the Postal should extend its lines to Salt Lake In due course of time came the following follow-ing letter in reply PORTLAND Or Fob 28 DEAR SIR Replying to your favor of Feb 21st for which I am very much ohl sed I beg leave to state tbat this company will no doubt have a line to your beautiful e ty before a great many moons It takes n whole lot of money to build telegraph lines in your section oldie country there being so many bIg jumps between towns Thanking you for your Interest inter-est I remain yours very truly J W HAYrs This is official assurance that Salt Lake will not remain longer under the exclusive exclu-sive care of the Western Union and at least assures a cut in courtesy if not a cut in rates |
