Show Evening Session The choir first sang the ninth hymn and after prayer by Elder Seymour B Young sang the 123rd hymn APOSTLE ABRAHAM H CANNON was the first speaker His remarks are condensed as follows The large congregation at the meeting one of the largest congregations ever seen in the tabernacle at an evening session is but an index of the great awakening ia the that has come among the people last year and which is showing itself in many ways This awakening has to some LuL ft DO ai seemed inexplicable but it can uu u rectly traced to tho liberality with which the people have responded to the calls for funds with which to complete the temple In view of tho stringency of the money market and of the many surrounding circumstances cir-cumstances it seems that tho people responded most nobly denying themselves them-selves many things in order to do so So noble was the response that the temple can be dedicated on the day promised And there can be no doubt that the people will receive a reward commensurate with their endeavors in this respect The necessity of complying with the law of tithing was remarked upon and the speaker showed how one who declines to obey this law does not injure anyone so much as himself for when one disobeys any law of God he weakens his influence with God in the degree of his transgression transgres-sion The observances of all laws is exacted ex-acted of the people in this world tVinf thev mnv uc nfirfenfc in no bOUli liiiey may jjencuu the sight of God and no command Is of so small importance that it If there man can afford to transgress is to bea test that men will have to go through in order to enter this temple and many have spoken of the test that is 1 to be usedhow much harder tests will be used in the great experiences we are yet to go through before we can enter into the kingdom of heaven APOSTLE FRANCIS M LYMAN was the next speaker He began by making some remarks on the necessity of the Saints looking into their own souls now j and then spoke of the liberality of Saints in the matter of contributions for the temple lie also touched upon the manifestations that some believe will take place at the dedication dedi-cation saying that nothing mar vellous need be looked for as the people are not prepared for any too I such demonstration There are many sins among the Saints There can hardly be found a family among the Saints which wholly observes the word of I wisdom It is high time that the people begin to ask themselves whether their house is being built upon the rock or upon the sand Vhat is necessary is that that this people shall so obey the laws of God that they will be pointed out as a peculiar pe-culiar people in this respect It is not peculiar pe-culiar in this respect now but it can become so if the Saints will only maIm an effort to put away all evil The evils of card playing and of many other practices that are gaining ground among the Saints which show that this people is partaking of the ways of the world were pointed out A reform is demanded the speaker said It is not a reform that shall last only until after tho temple ceremonies but such a reform as shall be permanent and shall make this people most peculiar for good works Apostle Lyman made some further remarks re-marks on needed reforms in a very forcible forci-ble manner The choir sang the anthem From Whence Come All These People Benediction by Apostle John W Taylor Tay-lor The conference then adjourned for six months |
